Newspaper carrier, 9, hailed as hero for rescuing woman trapped in hot truck

Source: Omaha World Herald

KEARNEY, Neb. — Skyler Wilson, 9, is being called a hero for rescuing Rosy Drake, 69, after she had been trapped in her pickup truck for more than an hour in 80-degree weather.

Drake, who lives in north of Kearney, planned to go to a Kearney landfill to drop off tree limbs July 20.

“My truck has a broken door that only opens from the outside. I have to roll down the window and open the door using the outside handle. I got in and shut the door, but when I turned the key, the battery was dead. I thought I could get out the passenger side, but the door was wedged shut by a picnic table which was between the truck and the garage wall,” she said.

She panicked when she realized that she had left her cellphone in her purse inthe house. Drake began screaming for help.

FULL story at link. Kitten rescue in full story too.

The door on my truck started sticking and a couple of times I had to get someone to help me get out. Then it stuck so I couldn't get in - ironically it did it at the repair shop so I just left it there an extra couple of days so they could fix the door and the windows that no longer operated. On mine, some of the electric door locks and the motors on some windows had burned out (on a 1999 truck). It was expensive to get them repaired, but worth it. Being alone much of the time and with the house away from the road, if I'd been in the same position as Ms Drake I would be dead. No one would have heard me call.

Skyler looks like a very empathetic young man and I glad to see he's getting recognition for what he's done.

Never heard the term used. Does it have a particular religious connection?
I can understand the implication. Just don't know where it comes from.
Anybody?

We still take a Sunday paper, but it has been delivered by adults in cars/trucks for years now.

Reminds me of a great documentary, filmed not far from where I live, from 2001 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paperboys_(film)).
