Detroit teachers union boss finds support at trial

Source: Detroit Free Press

Dozens of teachers rallied in support of the head of the Detroit Federation of Teachers this morning as a union trial opened that could cost him his job.

Steve Conn, 57, is facing various misconduct charges before the executive board of the union.

Conn's supporters described the trial as a witch hunt sparked by people who are still angry that the controversial Conn was elected president in January.

“For the first time in my career, I feel like we have a president who picks up the phone and fights for us, instead of selling us out,” said Renaissance High School teacher Beth Plumridge.

of more hypocrites....sounds like Conn is a democrat and the union board is creepublican, but I don't count on that being true, except Conn being a liberal, progressive democrat. I had a union that after 28 years of paying dues and not kissing ass, failed to defend me when I was forced out of my job. I was a union steward for 18 years and I fought against unfair dismissals, discipline of members and more often than not won. Unions are a good thing, but when they become corrupt, they are as bad as our corrupt political system. Money and power is the only thing that counts, no matter who heads the union/Party.
