Kane refuses to release porn emails she wanted to make public
Source: The Morning Call (Allentown, PA)
HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen Kane argued for judicial permission to release pornographic emails from the office computer system, but her office will continue to oppose formal open records requests for the emails , her spokesman said.
The state Supreme Court this week released documents showing that Kane was told in December she could release the emails that she claims are at the root of her legal problems. She claims those who want to keep them private are part of a campaign to discredit her and that a grand jury judge was preventing their dissemination.
The Morning Call, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Philadelphia Inquirer had filed formal open records requests for the emails.
Kane's lawyers said the emails will be part of her defense against criminal charges that include perjury.

(62,444 posts)I can't quite put my finger on it, but she strikes me as being a wee bit on the obsessive side in what seems to be some kind of odd tit-for-tat political one upsmanship that has gotten way out of hand.
"I'm being charged with leaking grand jury information to a newspaper because PORN!"
Been following this one for weeks and still have no god-damned idea what its about.
But what it feels like is that she's been putting a lot of energy into figuring out who ate the strawberries from the mess hall refrigerator.
She had a car accident a few months back. Did she hit her head or something?

(1,893 posts)They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled the Caine out of action....

(6,855 posts)Apparently the emails she wants to release, but is being prevented from doing so, will support her grand jury testimony under oath. That would nullify the perjury charge. Also those emails would supposedly also show she wasn't engaged in any obstruction.

(1,893 posts)... From my read of this article and others she can release the emails anytime she wants ...
But there maybe other things going on:

(6,855 posts)She is not the only one that is "the office". There are other employees.
They don't want to release them because of privacy concerns. From the article in the OP:
The contract issues arise because many of the nearly 800-member office are unionized workers. The privacy issues could be third parties from the outside who sent or forwarded emails, he said.

I bet the press has a huge interest into what the names are of the political leaders who would send such porn around, along with making personal comments("jokes" about the evidence. I'd like to know who these state officials are too.

(1,168 posts)question to ask is why didn't she give the emails to the Montgomery Co. jury investigating her in the fist place. Seems like in trial the evidence would still have the same punch in her defense and may have given the Grand Jury reason not to indite in the first place. She wanted to make the emails public but didn't want to give them to the GD??? A real headscratcher.
