The death of a man at a jail in Texas earlier this month was caused in part by sheriffs deputies restraining him and one placing his knee on the mans back and throat, authorities in Dallas said on Monday.
Joseph Hutcheson, who suffered from a heart condition and had consumed illegal drugs, died on 1 August of a homicide, according to the Dallas County medical examiners office.
It attributed his death in the lobby of the county jail to the combined toxic effects of cocaine and methamphetamine compounded by hypertensive cardiovascular disease associated with struggle and restraint. The office declined to elaborate on its findings.
A spokesperson for the sheriffs office declined to comment on the medical examiners initial findings Monday morning. Sheriff Lupe Valdez expects the internal investigation into the incident to be completed within the next two weeks, according to the spokesperson.

(65,227 posts)4. Who doesn't know how potentially deadly it is to kneel on someone's
neck or throat? Yet we see cops doing it all the time.
Remember that 14-year-old girl that Eric Casebolt manhandled in Texas? At one point he actually kneels on her neck, and for quite a long time he kneels on her thin, fragile back!

It is almost certain that much of the damage done to Freddie Gray's neck was caused by some cop kneeling on his neck.
Furthermore, most of these cops are either bulked up from weight training and taking steroids or else seriously overweight from junk food and lack of exercise, so the damage they can do is even worse than it might be if they weighed less.
