Carly Fiorina has rocketed into second place in the Republican presidential field on the heels another strong debate and Donald Trump has lost support, a new national CNN/ORC poll shows. The survey, conducted the three days after 23 million people tuned into Wednesday nights GOP debate on CNN, shows that Trump is still the partys front-runner with 24% support. That, though, is an 8 percentage point decrease from earlier in the month when a similar poll had him at 32%. Fiorina ranks second with 15% support up from 3% in early September. Shes just ahead of Ben Carsons 14%, though Carsons support has also declined from 19% in the previous poll.
Driving Trumps drop and Fiorinas rise: A debate in which 31% of Republicans who watched said Trump was the loser, and 52% identified Fiorina as the winner. During the CNN debate, Fiorina clashed with Trump over his personal attacks and their business records and scored points for her condemnation of Planned Parenthood. The top three contenders underscore a key theme in the 2016 race: In a jam-packed GOP presidential field, the leading candidates are the only ones who have never held political office.
But one established politician has seen his standing rise after flashing foreign policy chops on the debate stage. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio who 14% of Republicans identified as Wednesdays winner, putting him second behind Fiorina is now in fourth place with 11% support, up from 3% in a previous poll. In fifth place is former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, at 9%. Hes followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 6% each, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 4%, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 3%, Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 2% and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum at 1%. Five other candidates received less than one-half of 1 percentage point support: former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former New York Gov. George Pataki and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Carson was a quiet presence in Wednesdays debate, but he remains the most popular candidate in the GOP field, with 65% of Republican voters saying they view him favorably, compared to just 10% saying they have an unfavorable opinion of the retired neurosurgeon.
Rubio ranks second in the popularity contest, with 57% viewing him favorably and 16% unfavorably. Hes followed by Fiorina (54% favorable to 17% unfavorable), Huckabee (53% to 28% unfavorable), Cruz (52% to 22%) and Trump (52% to 40%). The biggest positive movement was in favor of Fiorina whose favorability rating has climbed by 9 percentage points since August. And the biggest drop hit Trump, who shed 6 percentage points in that same period. But Trump still stands out on the issues. About 44% of likely GOP voters say they see Trump as the candidate who could best handle the economy well ahead of his nearest competitors: Fiorina at 11%, Rubio at 10% and Bush at 8%.Trump also wins on immigration, with 47% saying he could best address the issue, ahead of second-place Rubios 15% and Bushs 9%. He even edges Rubio, 22% to 17%, on who could best handle foreign policy

(1,539 posts)Carly would be the easiest to beat in the general. She has a record of failure.
Lucent went bankrupt. Fired at HP. Fired from McCain campaign. She hasn't worked for 11 years. She lost to Barbara Boxer in bid for Senate. At HP she sold to Iran, violating US sanctions. Her outsourcing US josb to Asia and India will not sit well with many voters. Her $100 million in salary, perks, and bonuses in four years, while destroying HP is not a record anyone can run on.

(11,733 posts)... I dare say that Mr. Trump would do less damage to America than would Ms. Fiorina. And that's saying something.

(3,426 posts)Yes ,sometimes too much is never enough ! What I can tell you is what it says here is more than even I myself believe. I mean it's just far too great, over and above fantastic. You might recall Big dog I told you Christie would fall somewhere between 1 % and 1.2 %. Thats what it says here since the 1st. debate ,actually prior to that but thats classified stuff in what it says here for my eyes only ! Well he did fall there and walked into the 2nd debate right there in that number ! Christie should be somewhere between 1/2 a point and less but I have use of him for now until I no longer have use of him.
And Jeb Bush, he will eventually fall to at or about 3% as I said, but that doesn't mean his numbers will hold there,- but he will will fall there. And the funny thing about it is ,he does it to himself ! Now when Jeb falls there the Bush battalion will step in and save fallen hide but he will sign himself over to their battalion and do and not do everything they say !
There is quite a bit about all that in what is says here !
Carly is flowering currently but I assure you in the tomorrows to come she will wither away same as she did twice in California !
As to the rest of them, they are all dumb dumbs !
It has to be me big dog ,I just don't see it any other way.
It says so here too by the way ! It also says a solid 47 % lead will eventually happen for the Trump camp ! I shouldn't really be speaking that far into it, but hay, it says so here so it must be ok !
By the way big dog, I am working up a T shirt idea ,how's this one, the republican nomination is not a free for all !
It's time to get rid of some of those dumb dumbs ,they take up to much of the air and they leave rest of it stuffy !
I hired an expert wordsmith to work it out in concept -he came back with this off the top- The republican nomination isn't a free for all- it's time to clear the air.
Great entertainment ahead folks, great entertainment ,stay tuned !

(4,205 posts)If I were to enter the race and stand at a podium and call Obama a bunch of names as has been done then kick a few latinos and maybe throw an anchor baby into a fire and declare that I am a young black man I would probably jump into the lead and maybe win the repug nomination..
P.S.I am actually an old fat white man...but the truth is pretty transient on the repug campaign trail..looks as if the bigger the lie the more love they get.

Little known fact: Fiorina is actually a zombie who eats the brains of Republicans right after they vote. True story.

(10,857 posts)CNN bent their own rules to get Fiorina into the adult swim debates, and has been studiously ignoring and downplaying her dishonest performance, and I assume has made sure to drop her name frequently in their own broadcast and print.
My guess is that this move is designed to generate more interest in CNN, by creating a more interesting narrative in the ongoing clown circus that is the Republican Presidential Herd.
And that's all fun and games for 2015, but the ramifications are as serious as the time we let some plutocrats get close enough to steal the whole thing, allow the worst terror attacks on the nation, lie to start a war, double-dunk the nation in recession while wages fell, and steal one-third of all American homes while reducing the life expectancy of most Americans.
So we can laugh now, but I don't have anything left to lose in 2017.
