House passes bill to repeal U.S. oil export ban, veto looms

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Friday to overturn the 40-year-old ban on oil exports, but the measure did not get enough support to overturn any veto by President Barack Obama, and similar legislation in the Senate faces an uphill battle.

(1,113 posts)If you can make money selling cluster bombs to blow up women and children, you should be able to choke the planet to death with deadly fossil fuels. Everybody knows it's killing us, so, what the hell? Sell it!

(20,142 posts)sell it. Frankly, it makes more sense to me to go ahead and sell on the world market. Prices would be more stable, probably higher for us, but that would encourage more development of cleaner energy. It's hard to get this country to make a commitment to cleaner energy because sometimes oil and natural gas is just so damn cheap.

They're going to buy it from someone. Wouldn't we rather we get the money than the Russians?
