Prosecutors seek 12½ years for ex-Subway spokesman Fogle

Source: AP

By RICK CALLAHAN

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jared Fogle's attorneys asked a judge for leniency Thursday, saying in court documents that the former Subway pitchman "is profoundly sorry" as he awaits sentencing on child pornography and sex-crime charges.

Fogle's lawyers are asking for a five-year prison term at next week's sentencing, the minimum they said they would seek when he agreed in August to plead guilty to one count each of travelling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography.

Prosecutors submitted their own sentencing memorandum Thursday requesting a 12 ½-year term — the most they'd agreed to seek under the plea deal — and a lifetime of supervision following his release.

However, federal judges have wide discretion, and Judge Tanya Walton Pratt could go beyond the prosecution's recommendation at the Nov. 19 sentencing. The child-porn charge carries a maximum 20 years in prison, and the sex with a minor count is punishable by up to 30 years.

Here is some poor shlub, who was fat, ugly and not the most socially gifted person, and he walked into a dream life. Not only did he lose weight, he got some work cosmetic work done, a stylist and acting classes, to go on to make millions of dollars living the life someone could only dream of having. He even had a gorgeous wife, who when he was that fat shlub probably wouldn't have given him the time of day, and he literally screwed up.

Why wasn't his life enough for him? Most men would have given their left nut to have taken his place. I guess it's true, you can't put lipstick on a pig.

He didn't all of the sudden developed an attraction to minors because he got rich.
It just wouldn't be on the news if he wasn't rich and famous.

And it did, for a while.

I like what geek tragedy says. Good fortune test some people in ways adversity does not. Look at all the people who wreck their lives after winning the lottery. And look at what power does to others.

I guess we all need to work on having good character. That, and some help from the right type of family and friends surrounding us, the right type of support systems.

I wonder what I would do if I had money and power. Would I be a jerk?

... and Subway was near where he lived, so that's what he ate.

Once a pig, always a pig.

I would like to know why Subway never fully vetted him before making him their poster child.

This loser was not operating on his own. There is no way he could have been doing this with impunity for so long, especially considering his wealth and fame. He was at least coached or taught how to gain intimate access to his multiple victims, as well as how to keep them quiet. This is not just a pervert who clumsily assaulted a child and was caught. This is a professional predator, and I bet he knows others with the same "passions".
