Donald Trump Firing Warning Shots At National Republican Party
Source: Business Insider -27 minutes ago
Property magnate Donald Trump fired a warning shot at the national Republican Party on Monday. The GOP presidential front-runner tweeted that the Republican National Committee was reportedly "getting ready to treat me unfairly big spending planned against me.""That wasn't the deal!" Trump exclaimed.
The "deal" was an apparent reference to the pledge Trump signed in September to not launch an independent presidential campaign should he lose the nomination. At the time, Trump said he was happy to sign the non-binding pledge because the RNC assured him that it would treat him "fairly." But Trump's tweet on Monday suggested that he could be trying to use a third-party run as leverage against the RNC again.
He also hinted at the possibility the day before during an interview on ABC's "This Week." Host George Stephanopoulos asked Trump about a recent Wall Street Journal report on a supposed "guerrilla campaign" being planned against him.He inquired if that could lead to Trump rethinking his third-party pledge. "Well, we'll see what happens," Trump replied, according to ABC's transcript. "It will be very interesting. But I'm leading every poll by a lot. It's not even a little bit anymore, it's a lot."
Stephanopoulos pressed Trump again. "Well, I'm going to have to see what happens," the candidate repeated. "I will see what happens. I have to be treated fairly. You know, when I did this, I said I have to be treated fairly. If I'm treated fairly, I'm fine." It's not clear whether the "guerrilla campaign" will ultimately amount to a significant spending effort against Trump. That campaign is reportedly being spearheaded Liz Mair, a former RNC online-communications director.

(218 posts)Fair?
As fair as Trump has been to Syrian refugees?
Fair?
As fair as Trump has been to people of color?
Fair?
As fair as Trump has been to women?
The man doesn't know what the word means.
There are days when I wonder--could he be a stealth candidate for the Democrats? Seriously...what if he's just playing a game?
But the verbal vomit that pours from him, sadly I think what you hear is what you get with this man. He is Angry Joe's candidate--he's mad as hell, and he doesn't doesn't care who knows it. And that is getting him support.
What scares me most of all, I think he could be the nominee, even though everyone I know says, "No, it's not possible."

(30,803 posts)It's getting way too close for comfort. I hope the ad campaign brings him down.
I find it hard to believe he would run third party. There's no way he could win, and he doesn't want to be a loser.

(533 posts)Because he'd become a loser by losing the GOP nomination. That's how egotists minds work; to get out of being a loser they double down. Usually making them a bigger loser!

(30,803 posts)Personally, I think a third party run by Trump would be good times. High entertainment value with no chance of any Republican getting in the White House!

(45,984 posts)The Donald would probably do the GOP a favor running as a third party candidate. He'd make the eventual GOP nominee look like a reasonable person in comparison. Not that Ted Cruz is a reasonable person, he would just look reasonable in comparison to the Donald.
Some would say that the Donald would draw votes away from the GOP candidate, and so he would. However, I don't think that makes any difference since the Republican brand is rotting on the shelf right now. The Donald might take away enough votes from the GOP candidate to hand Bernie -- or even Hillary -- an electoral college sweep running as a third candidate.

(53,947 posts)Sure, sure, "a pox on both their houses" is a natural sentiment. But the RNC is merely politically reprehensible. They do shady politics, they do favors for billionaires, they stir up poor white resentment to support the rich white leaders who rip them off, they pass laws to suppress the votes of minorities. That's all pretty evil.
Trump is something different. He was amusing for the last 4-5 months. But in the last few weeks, he's gone from loony to outright fascistic. Most Republicans are a danger to the economy. The logical extent of their policies is wars overseas to control oil and open markets to US corporate exploitation. They're bad. Trump is an order of magnitude worse. He's crossed the line to fascism in all but name; he's a danger to the Republic in ways that Dick Cheney could only wetdream about.
We could survive a term or two of President Rubio or President Kasich. It'd be ugly, but the Republic would correct eventually and the Constitution would live on. I have no such faith in the case of a President Trump. I seriously doubt we'd get through even four years of him with the Bill of Rights still in tact and the Constitution still functioning. The man is dangerous.
In WW2, to defeat fascism, our country had to team up with Josef Stalin and all the monstrous evil he led. You do what you do to defeat the greater evil when it presents itself. In 2016, I think we're going to have to watch a similar struggle and hope that rank and file Republicans can come to their senses and defeat Trump's nascent form of fascism. He's not funny anymore. The mask is coming loose. There's a real devil under that comb-over-and-around.

Not a bad outcome to dream about (assuming the cage is metaphorical), but Trump really does scare me. If he gets too big (and he's at 42% of the Republican base right now) losing an election won't stop him. I can easily envision him getting 45% of the vote in November 2016 and start calling for his loyal thugs to "protest" the rigged or stolen election.

Yes , they are planning on saying bad things about me, that's a violation of the deal ,in fact it voids the deal.
Look, a week or so ago Chris Christie said bad things about me, in fact he made fun of my voice. Big mistake ,he told terrible jokes about me , jokes in poor taste actually, that guy got a free meal on me.He received a formal invitation to attend a free meal, a meal that I spared no expense on. He told those reporters all I did through-out the meal and all the way to his car afterwords ,is talk about myself, he went on to say I wouldn't shut up.
Isn't it odd that straight talker couldn't find the words to cast doubt on what I say !
Read what that jerk has to say and say not.
It's never a good thing to do,piss off the Donald. Christie knows !
And Christie-believe this, he is no tough guy, actually he's a whimpering little piss ant. He knows what happens when I Donald become angry. And he knows how mad I get . And I'll tell you something else, it wasn't the cat that got Christie's tongue,It was I the Donald who put the stops on the fat flapper jaw Jersey street thug piss ant .
At the very least the public can now know straight out of Christies mouth that is memory doesn't work so well when confronted with pointed questions. This should clue everyone in on the kind of shit for answers Christie will put out there when he is forced to answer questions about his involvement in the closing of lanes on the George Washington Bridge -or Bridgegate.
you know I think if it had happened I would remember that
but you know there could be things I forget too
No, i don't remember that.
but if I do remember that ,this is how I would recall it !

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has begun telling audiences that thousands and thousands of Jersey City residents cheered when the Twin Towers fell on 9/11. Pressed for proof, the Republican has so far offered nothing, though he insists he saw the celebrations, reality notwithstanding.
Local law enforcement officials have said Trump is wrong. The mayor of Jersey City has explained that Trump is wrong. Even the Republican who was governor of New York on 9/11 has said Trump is wrong. And yesterday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was given a chance to defend his own constituents and make clear that Trumps claims are ridiculous.
But Christie just wasnt prepared to do that. BuzzFeed reported last night on reporters pressing the governor on the point.
QUESTION: Governor, you were in New Jersey in 2001 right after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Do you recall ever seeing were there ever instances in Jersey City of thousands of people cheering?
CHRISTIE: I dont recall that. I dont. I mean, listen, I cant say, Matt, I cant say that I have it was a pretty emotional time for me because, as Ive mentioned before, theres family involved, theres friends involved and so it was a pretty harrowing time. I do not remember that. And so, its not something that was part of my recollection. I think if it had happened, I would remember it. But, you know, there could be things I forget, too. I dont remember that. No.
Note the pointless equivocating. Christie could have just said Trump is wrong, but instead he felt the need to add qualifiers about his ability to remember things. The question called for straightforward candor about his own constituents, but instead Christie was reduced to, [Y]ou know, there could be things I forget before eventually saying he doesnt remember Jersey City residents celebrating the death of thousands.
The weak answer came hours after Christie was interviewed by CNNs Jake Tapper, who asked the governor what he thinks should happen to the Syrian refugees whove already been resettled in New Jersey. The host asked more than once, but Christie wouldnt answer.
