US President Barack Obama paid tribute to the victims of the November 13 Paris attacks on Monday, hours before the opening of UN climate talks in the capital, visiting the concert hall where the deadliest attacks took place during the onslaught.
Obama, who is in town for the COP21 international climate summit, was joined at the Bataclan by French President François Hollande not long after Air Force One touched down around midnight local time.
Obama placed a flower at the makeshift memorial and then stood silently, his head bowed and his hands clasped in front of him. Afterwards he walked away with his arms around Hollande and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who was also present.
Helicopters flew overhead and police shut off the roads around the bloodiest scene of the attacks, where 89 people were shot dead. Security concerns are running high in Paris as some 150 world leaders descend on the French capital for talks that are hoped to clinch the worlds first universal climate deal to limit global greenhouse gas emissions
