Obama Reaffirms ISIS Policy In Rare Oval Office Address

Source: Huffington Post

He requested measures such as reforming the visa waiver program and closing a loophole that allows anyone on a no-fly list can buy a gun.

As he has done many times after mass shootings, Obama also implored Congress to renew consideration of gun control measures in response to Wednesday's shooting, which killed 14 people and wounded 21. It was the deadliest shooting since the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012, the last time Congress attempted to take legislative action on guns.

Billed by White House officials as a way to assuage Americans’ fears, the speech -- only the third Obama has delivered directly from the Oval Office during his presidency -- addressed growing concerns about fighting terrorism and threats from the so-called Islamic State, or ISIS.

The FBI is investigating the San Bernardino shooting as a possible case of terrorism. Federal authorities say that the two alleged attackers, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, might have been inspired by ISIS, and Malik had posted comments on social media pledging allegiance to the group.

and created isis by the actions they took in office, ridiculing the rest of us when we asked for a different path.

However, the situation is dire and Islamic fundamentalism is used as an excuse or drives the slaughter of innocents all over the world. Our leaders better stop telling us to remain brave, and instead start doing something that works.

I have been a major Obama supporter since the beginning, but radical islam has not been contained under almost 8 years of his watch.

The bush junta just stoked the fear relentlessly just for their own political and financial gain. And, of course, leave it to NPR to give Ron Christie, a junta operative, a national media platform to say how "badly" Obama is handling this, in hyper-polarizing terms. He sounded quite inebriated as well.

The government shouldn't be able to take away people's rights by simply putting them on the list with no due process of law.

What would stop a republican president from from putting a BLM member's name on the same list and taking away their 1st amendment right?

And I bet it's harder for the common citizen to fight it.

I mean if you hate due process of law then just say so. But I think it's really important.

There is no way to find out why you have been placed on the list, and
There is no mechanism to allow you to challenge the listing, and get yourself removed, and
No conviction in any court of law is required for placement on this list.
This is an Un-Citizen-List. Placement on this list makes you an Un-Person, at least in regards to your ability to travel freely. That is not acceptable in a society like ours.

It is completely ABSURD that people who are deemed too dangerous to fly
in a commercial jet are free to buy any firearm they desire -- no questions
asked.

I am TIRED of hearing this insipid, illogical talking-point that criticizes gun
control on the basis that "it won't stop ALL gun related crimes". No law -- not
even a simple traffic law -- will stop all of the crimes from happening which it
is intended to stop.

Here is a summary of the Republican policies to combat terrorism:

1) Arm everybody; more guns = more safety.
2) Don't allow any more Muslims into the U.S.
3) Deport all Muslims, or herd them into interment camps, because they all want to kill us.
4) Kill Muslims and their families, eye-for-an-eye (see Donald Trump speech)
5) Start another ground war in the Middle East

How long have you been trolling DU ????
