Dad: San Bernardino shooter agreed with ISIL, 'obsessed with Israel'

Source: USA Today

The father, who is also named Syed Farook, told La Stampa that his son took on an overly conservative outlook on Islam and at least once expressed support for ideas promoted by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State militant group, also known as ISIL or ISIS.

"He said he shared the ideology of al-Baghdadi to create an Islamic state, and he was obsessed with Israel," the father told a reporter in an interview outside the home of this other son, Syed Raheel Farook, in Corona, Calif.

The father said he counseled his son to be patient because, he said, in time political changes in the Middle East will accomplish his desires.

"I kept telling him always: stay calm, be patient, in two years Israel will no longer exist," the elder Farook told the newspaper. "Geopolitics is changing: Russia, China, America too, nobody wants the Jews there."

"Rizwan was the mama's boy, and she is very religious like him," he said. "Once we had a dispute about the historical figure of Jesus, my son yelled that I was an unbeliever and decided that marriage with my wife had to end."

Sounds like the father was just telling his son what he wanted to hear, in hopes of keeping him from doing something stupid!

The employee with whom he argued was not Jewish. He was a Christian who belongs to a Christian sect that has adopted the name "Messianic Judaism." Members of this sect, the majority of whom were born Christian with a minority of members who were born Jews but converted to Christianity, adopt some Jewish practices and religious articles, but are not considered to be practicing Judaism by Jews. That, of course, doesn't excuse anything about this horrible incident. I just wanted to be clear because this particular group does not speak for Jews and is actually offensive to many of us because of its misrepresentation.

hardly a reputable source.

SAN BERNARDINO — Divorce papers from the parents of one of the San Bernardino attackers reveal an acrimonious split in which the wife accused her husband of being an abusive alcoholic.

The records obtained Thursday by The Associated Press show that Syed Farook’s mother, Rafia, described her husband in 2006 as “irresponsible, negligent and an alcoholic.”

She said she was forced to move out of her home with three of her children because her husband continually harassed her “verbally and physically and refused to leave the home.”

She filed a no-contact, stay-away domestic violence protection petition on July 3, 2006. She alleged that same year that her husband attacked her while her kids were present, dropped a TV on her and pushed her toward a car.

And we sometimes see it on DU.

Migrations are a part of the natural development and history of the world.

Europe, especially France has many, many immigrants from across the world. And of course, here in the US we welcome immigrants from everywhere and allow them to become citizens and vote and participate in our political life.

The Middle Eastern countries welcome laborers from around the world. There is no opposition to those migrations from the same people in the Middle East who migrate to other parts of the world.

Migration is a normal part of human development.

And no people or religion has the exclusive claim to any part of the world if you look at history.

Palestine was not a separate country but for a few years. It was part of the Ottoman Empire and earlier part of the Roman Empire.

Tolerance, religious, ethnic and racial, is the hope for the world. Intolerance of all kinds will lead to war after war.

but if you read RawStory, Huffington Post or some other progressive sites, the comments frequently cross the line from opposing Israeli policies to antisemitism. If African Americans were blamed for Boko Haram and Mexican Americans for El Chapo, there would be outrage. When someone blames Jews (most of whom DO NOT live in Israel), for particular actions of the Israeli government, I almost never see a rebuttal from a non-Jew.

Dates back to post-Soviet-Revolutionary days. People who were not revolutionaries but expressed solidarity with, worked with, and supported the revolutionaries. Some were informants, some worked hard for the revolution, some would assist in revolutionary activities to the point of picking up weapons to fight.

So the Farooks were/are fellow-travelers with IS or affine groups.

Russian word was "sputnik." The Russian media source is a play on words--bouncing off of the satellite rah-rah we-were-first point-of-pride rhetoric from the '50s, aiming their "news" at fellow-travelers who agree with Russia's geopolitics and goals and even punning slightly about somebody who is a with-Putin-person (s-Putin-ik).

Farook's father on Sunday told the Italian newspaper La Stampa that his son agreed with the ideology of Islamic State leaders and was "obsessed" with Israel. But a family representative said Sunday afternoon that the shooter's father did not recall the comments he made to the publication.

Hussam Ayloush, executive director of CAIR in the greater Los Angeles area, said the father, like the rest of the family, is "dealing with a lot of stress." Ayloush said that when he asked the father about the interview this morning, he said, "Which interview? ... I didn't speak to any media ... I didn't say any of that."
