Bernie Sanders to Donald Trump: 'That kind of crap won't work in the U.S.'

Source: CNN

(CNN)Bernie Sanders condemned Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, calling the Republican front-runner a "demagogue" and saying "that kind of crap won't work in the United States of America."

Appearing on NBC's "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday, the Vermont independent who's seeking the Democratic presidential nomination accused Trump of trying to "divert attention away from the real issues."

"What somebody like a Trump is trying to do is to divide us up -- a few months ago, we're supposed to hate Mexicans," Sanders said. "Now we're supposed to hate Muslims. That kind of crap is not going to work in the United States of America."

Asked by host Jimmy Fallon whether he was more focused on Trump or primary opponent Hillary Clinton, Sanders replied, "I look forward to beating Donald Trump -- I would enjoy that race very, very much."

1. He is right. First it was Mexican immigrants (rapists, murderers, drugs), now it's Muslims...

Trump is out to coddle the racists who see their middle class dreams eroding by giving them the "evil other" to blame.

Good for Bernie calling him out on it!

Whether that kind of crap can break through the flimsy legal barriers and take hold in this country, again (yes, Virginia, there was an awful lot of that in the history books)...that's got a lot to do with the Executive Branch, who has done piss-all for minorities for for a number of decades, especially with regard to police brutality, domestic terrorism, and economic terrorism.

But my dad remembered the McCarthy era. We have to be careful what we do. It can happen here.

I've never seen it as open and obvious as it is, at the moment.

I agree with you. The Southern Poverty Law Center agrees also. They are very worried about the current climate.

My dad remembered McCarthy, and as a leftist, had some stories. He served in WWII also, and had stories from that time.

The more I hear from Sanders, the more I like him! It is telling that the MSM is virtually ignoring Bernie. My hat goes to Bernie for not engaging in negative campaigning.

I wish Sanders would just punch Trump in the face and send that toupee flying across the Atlantic.

Microphones are shoved in faces of Trump supporters and they say: yea, right.

It is frightening.
