Bernie Sanders hits back after being called a ‘wacko’ by Donald Trump

Source: W Post

By John Wagner

Hours after being called a “wacko” by Donald Trump, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders fired back Monday at the Republican front-runner, saying he was pushing “pathetic policies” designed to benefit billionaires such as himself at the expense of misguided working-class voters who support him.

Sanders and Trump have been engaged in an escalating war of words since Sunday, when the Vermont senator asserted during an appearance on “Face the Nation” that he is better-positioned than Trump to represent the economic interests of some the real estate mogul’s followers.

Trump opposes raising the minimum wage and supports some tax cuts for higher-income earners, positions that Sanders argued during the CBS program are contrary to the interests of Trump’s lower- and middle-class supporters. Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, has made that argument before, but it gained greater prominence with the Sunday show exposure.

On Monday morning, Trump took to Twitter to argue that if anyone is going to poach another candidate’s supporters, it’s him.

Go economics, and let's see if Trump can sell his trickle up policies, just like the good old days.

Standard Marxist approach to the critique of racism, sexism and other class-divisive wedges. What is fascinating is seeing whether Sanders' attempt will work.

It's a very interesting election cycle regardless of where you stand. Also a dangerous one.

Having spent a lot of my life among the kind of arch conservatives that are now supporting Trump, I think it's crazy to imagine them going over to an east coast jewish democrat that describes himself as a socialist. They've long since shown that identity politics, jingoistic patriotism and demagoguery are more important than rational policy that serves their self interest.

But, as my wife will gladly tell you, I've been wrong before.

Sorry to once again refer to the well thought out principles of Nazi propaganda developed by Hitler and Goebbels. You don't refer to your opponents by name, you assign them a derogatory nickname. The Repubs have used this technique for many years. Rush used " The screamer" for Howard Dean back in 2004, now Trump is using SLUT and Wacko, and he's just getting started.
