South African rangers seek to track rhinos in wildlife park

Source: AP

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, South Africa (AP) — Rangers in a major South African wildlife park recently darted a rhino to install a tracking device on the threatened animal as part of efforts to stop poaching.

Journalists witnessed the operation in Kruger National Park, where poachers have killed rhinos in record numbers to meet consumer demand for their horns in parts of Asia, particularly Vietnam.

Markus Hofmeyr, a senior veterinarian for South Africa's national parks service, says the tracking device will allow rangers to monitor the movement patterns of rhinos and develop better ways to protect them.

He requested that media not report any detail about the tracking device because poachers are on the lookout for any information that could help their crimes.

2. The ignorant must be educated...

One huge step is the education of the ignorant masses that think a piece of a Rhinoceros horn made into a potion will actually enhance their erection.
They are so damned dumb that they will reject the shed portions of the Rhino foot pads, even though it is the exact same tissue that the horn is made of.
It is primarily Asian men that are demanding the horns, much as it is the rich Chinese that are clamoring for the elephant ivory.
Status and sexual prowess.
More wars have been fought, more innocent persons and animals killed, more mayhem committed, just so some old rich Asian could get a substance that he thinks will make him hard.
And often, tragically, the fact that the poacher is simply trying to feed his starving family, is lost in the whole debacle.
But also ignored is the fact that there are organized efforts to poach the Rhino horn and the elephant ivory, organized by those that would pass the obscene profits on to the likes of the Boko Haram, ISIS and other radical, fundamentalist terrorist organizations.
I make no apologies and a pox upon anyone that cries "racism", when I speak of the depravity of the Chinese and other Asians that finance the horror of slaughter of an animal that does nothing, nothing of what they, in their superstitious stupidity, believes that it will do for them.
There is absolutely no scientific evidence, none whatsoever, that supports the contention that a Rhino horn has any aphrodisiac or medicinal qualities.
And a carved piece of ivory holds only the value that a stupid person is willing to pay for it.
You old fat rich Asian perverts want an erection to use with your purchased nubile concubines? Take a damned aspirin, you fool...it will accomplish as much.
