Starving sea lion found in San Diego, California, restaurant

Source: AP

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A starving sea lion has been rescued after finding its way into the booth of a fancy San Diego restaurant.

Experts at SeaWorld were called Thursday morning to The Marine Room, an oceanfront restaurant in La Jolla.

Rescuers found an 8-month-old female pup asleep in a dining booth. The pup was severely underweight and dehydrated.

The pup was taken to SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Center, and experts are cautiously optimistic about her recovery.

FULL short stay at link.

In a photo provided by SeaWorld, an 8-month-old female sea lion pup is shown where it was found sleeping in a booth of the Marine Room, an upscale restaurant in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016. Experts were called from nearby SeaWorld, who said the pup was severely underweight and dehydrated. The pup was taken to SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Center and experts are cautiously optimistic about her recovery. There’s been a surge in sea lion mortality over the past year because, scientists say, the animals’ food supply has been affected by higher-than-normal ocean temperatures linked to El Nino.(Mike Aguilera/SeaWorld via AP)

The human race is a cancer on the face of planet Earth. We destroy everything. I am glad I am old and won't be around for when the check is called in for payment. If there is a God he made a hell of a mistake in creating man.

Nature will do fine without us. Modern man [sic] doesn't fit in anywhere, unlike the so-called "primitives".

P.S.: I like to say that God should have taken the whole weekend off, not just the one day after he created us.

We have infested the Earth and are killing everything we can, as fast as we can. The terrible "human plague" will end and it won't be pretty.

We most definitely were a mistake of evolution. Nature will brush us aside, hopefully, while some life is still present. We have proven to be too greedy, mean and stupid to be allowed the privilege of surviving.

I only hope that both of us are wrong.

of starvation.

It's not the animals' fault the oceans are being stripped of their food sources.

Providence sent this little one to seek help.

Hope when she leaves, she is healthy, perhaps for the first time, and her little ribs aren't protruding.

Thank you, Omaha Steve.

Sick sea lion pup rescued from Marine Room

Posted 3:11 PM, February 5, 2016, by Bob Ponting, Updated at 04:01pm, February 5, 2016

SAN DIEGO – An undernourished sea lion pup is being nursed back to health after it was found lounging in a booth at the Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla.

Restaurant workers discovered the 20-pound female pup sleeping in a booth Thursday morning. It had apparently come in through an open door.

Employees called SeaWorld, which sent a rescue team. They determined that the 8-month-old California sea lion pup was severly undernourished and dehydrated.

They also noticed that the animal’s left eye was swollen shut.

Sea Lion That Wandered Into Calif. Eatery Returns to Ocean

Photos of the pup curled up in a booth at The Marine Room Restaurant in February went viral

By Laura McVicker

Amid cheers by those who rescued her, Marina, the wayward sea lion that ended up in a La Jolla restaurant booth two months ago, was returned to the ocean off California on Tuesday.

SeaWorld animal care workers boated out several miles off the coast of San Diego to return Marina and several other rehabilitated sea lions.

One by one, the animals waddled to the back of the boat and dove in, swimming away as the rescue workers looked on.

The chef of The Marine Room Restaurant, where Marina was found curled up in a booth in February, joined SeaWorld workers to free the pup.
