About two dozen demonstrators representing the Concerned Student 1950 group interrupted the University of Missouri Board of Curators meeting Thursday afternoon by reading the demands they gave school officials last fall and making statements in support of suspended Assistant Professor Melissa Click.
Curators Chair Pamela Henrickson tried futilely a few times to gavel them into silence, then gave up as she and the other curators on hand listened, mostly in silence.
If we dont get it, shut it down, the students shouted after the demands, which included calls for increasing the share of black faculty members to 10 percent by the 2017-18 school year and a 10-year strategic plan due May 1 to increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.
Of the demands made last fall, only the removal of University System President Tim Wolfe has been met. Wolfe resigned Nov. 9. On that same day, assistant professor of communication Melissa Click was captured on video calling for some muscle to remove reporters covering the demonstrations. Click was suspended by the curators last week after misdemeanor municipal assault charges were filed. Prosecution has been deferred under a deal with city prosecutors.

Well 1. is not going to happen since Wolfe is no longer associated with the University. Anyone have a list of the List of Demands Legion of Black Collegians' that were presented in 1969 for the betterment of the black community.
List of Demands
I. We demand that the University of Missouri System President, Tim Wolfe, writes a handwritten
apology to the Concerned Student 1950 demonstrators and holds a press conference in the
Mizzou Student Center reading the letter. In the letter and at the press conference, Tim Wolfe
must acknowledge his white male privilege, recognize that systems of oppression exist, and
provide a verbal commitment to fulfilling Concerned Student 1950 demands. We want Tim
Wolfe to admit to his gross negligence, allowing his driver to hit one of the demonstrators,
consenting to the physical violence of bystanders, and lastly refusing to intervene when
Columbia Police Department used excessive force with demonstrators.
II. We demand the immediate removal of Tim Wolfe as UM system president. After his removal
a new amendment to UM system policies must be established to have all future UM system
president and Chancellor positions be selected by a collective of students, staff, and faculty of
diverse backgrounds.
III. We demand that the University of Missouri meets the Legion of Black Collegians' demands
that were presented in 1969 for the betterment of the black community.
IV. We demand that the University of Missouri creates and enforces comprehensive racial
awareness and inclusion curriculum throughout all campus departments and units, mandatory
for all students, faculty, staff, and administration. This curriculum must be vetted, maintained,
and overseen by a board comprised of students, staff, and faculty of color.
V. We demand that by the academic year 20172018, the University of Missouri increases the
percentage of black faculty and staff campuswide to 10%.
VI. We demand that the University of Missouri composes a strategic 10 year plan by May 1,
2016 that will increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and
training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.
VII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding and resources for the
University of Missouri Counseling Center for the purpose of hiring additional mental health
professionals; particularly those of color, boosting mental health outreach and programming
across campus, increasing campuswide awareness and visibility of the counseling center, and
reducing lengthy wait times for prospective clients.
VIII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding, resources, and personnel for
the social justices centers on campus for the purpose of hiring additional professionals,
particularly those of color, boosting outreach and programming across campus, and increasing
campuswide awareness and visibility.
Let philosophy be transformed into a sharp weapon in the hands of the masses

(17,863 posts)It was definitely a battery to go along with a threat of force.
The only troubling aspect is the Curators bypassing the disciplinary process. As far as I can tell the President whose head the protesters collected did less wrong than Click. Click was proud of the head they collected. Hers can go on the mantle as well.
Even a liberal observing this may think the protesters have gone way too far. Blowback will be a real problem.

(44,173 posts)They are supporting a fascist professor, and I can't be associated with that.
I continue believe that President Tim Wolfe was a douchebag, however, who was wisely forced out of office.

(1,499 posts)of those condemning these students?
You will remember that, during the 2008 election, 2 members of the New Black Panthers Party stood outside of a polling location in a predominantly black community wearing military-esque clothing and carrying batons (i.e., nightsticks). Let us ASSUME that their purpose was to send a message to the poll watchers and media people at that location that they would not be permitted to question/approach voters as the approached and/or left the polls.
Did you, and/or do you, condemn their actions?
(note: for all of you tempted to guess why I ask this question, let me just say up front that it has nothing to do with Professor Glick's race and/or gender)
