Irish police hunt man disguised in dress and blonde wig over Drumcondra boxing weigh-in shooting

Source: Belfast Telegraph

Irish Police are hunting four men - one possibly wearing a dress and wig - after a man was shot dead by a "police-style uniform wearing" gang that stormed the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra, Dublin.

The victim has been named locally as David Byrne (34) from Raleigh Square in Crumlin.

One witness told independent.ie the gunmen had 'GARDA ERU' - for the Emergency Response Unit - in yellow letters on the back of bullet proof vests and carrying what looked like AK47s.

It is understood the targets of the attack were key members of a Dublin criminal gang run by a notorious Irish gangster who controls a drug smuggling empire from Spain’s Costa del Sol. The dead man was known by gardaí to be involved in organised crime.

Security sources said the chief suspects in the shooting at around 2.30pm are loyal to a rival gangland figure based in north Dublin. There are now fears that the shooting will spark a bloody north-side versus south-side gangland war in the Irish capital.
...
The wounded were rushed to the nearby Beaumont and Mater hospitals in the north of the city but one of those who had been shot died shortly afterwards. At least one other man is said to be in a critical condition while three others, all in their twenties, were taken to the two hospitals with gunshot wounds. None are thought to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The shooting took place during the weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s boxing bout at the National Arena in the Tallaght area of west Dublin. Top of the bill was a fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento for the vacant WBO European lightweight title.

I live in New York and most of the mobsters here were Italian or Jewish. The Irish cops were only known for taking bribes.

Did not know that Bulger was Irish. The name sure doesn't sound Irish.

Dublin weight-in murder: Continuity IRA claims murder of David Byrne

Dissident republicans have claimed they carried out a shooting in Dublin on Friday in which a man was killed and two others wounded.

The Continuity IRA said it also plans to carry out further attacks "on drug dealers and criminals".

Police said three of the gunmen wore police-style SWAT team uniforms and were armed with AK47 assault rifles.

The police also believe at least six people were involved in the attack at the Regency Hotel.

A man has been shot dead in Dublin in what police believe could be a reprisal for a murder at a boxing match weigh-in on Friday.

The man in his 50s was shot on Poplar Row, North Strand in the north inner city just three days after David Byrne, 33, was murdered at the Regency Hotel.
...
Speaking about the latest shooting, Irish Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said it as "another deplorable example of the ruthlessness of gangland criminals".

"It seems that some gangs are intent on waging a feud where human life counts for nothing," she said.
