Donald Trump: I'd bring back 'a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding'
Source: The Guardian

Donald Trump said he would bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding, or simulated drowning, at the Republican debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Saturday.
His Republican rival Ted Cruz, asked whether the practice notoriously used under the Bush administration during the war on terror was torture, denied it was: Under the definition of torture, no its not. It is enhanced interrogation ... It does not meet the generally recognized definition of torture.
But the Texas senator added: I would not bring it back in any sort of widespread use. And indeed Id join with Senator [John] McCain in prohibiting line officers from employing it.
Former Florida governor Jeb Bush brother of former president George W Bush under whom waterboarding was used by the CIA said: It was used sparingly, Congress has changed the laws and I think where we stand is the appropriate place.

(16,079 posts)That sickness can be found in this country, and among those who would vote for these "men"!
And if Ted Cruz doesn't believe that water boarding is torture, then perhaps he wouldn't mind if his father underwent the procedure?

(1,408 posts)It was worth it to hear trChump get booed several times and at the intro how quickly it got completely quiet so fast when he was introduced.
But it was sickening to hear how, whether by plan or not, how stupid and violent they are and how open they are about it.
Except for carson and he's so wishy-washy and quiet he was hardly heard and still came across as a very low information candidate.
They also re-enforced that not a single one of them should even lead or be in charge of anything at all.

(613 posts)Waterboarding does one thing. It gets your victim to tell you what you want to hear.
Waterboarding these idiots would only result in a reiteration of the crap they are already talking.

(2,472 posts)What a disgusting post! Everyone and anyone who had anything to do with waterboarding, or any other form of torture, belongs in prison. Period.

(22,380 posts)I would like for you to look into the mirror and realize what you just said. It is criminal to harm a person that way, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Anyone. Even them
And it is a coward's way out to just hurt someone instead of finding any other way to combat them.
You watched every one of them in essence dig their own grave today, they were all awful, but to talk about torturing them is ridiculously harsh and not funny. Besides, in the ones we tortured in Abu Graib (I forgot how to spell it) we got nothing but broken or dead humans, no valuable information.
We already got the no valuable information happening on that stage, no need to hurt them, they are doing it to themselves anyway.
If I'm over-reacting to your post, I apologize.
We all have our histories, and I grew up a small train ride away from Dachau and torture is a sore subject to my psyche.

(22,380 posts)I maintain that if we had investigated the war criminals of our previous administration, and had given serious attention to their despicable acts and not just blindly "looked forward instead of backward" this comment would never have happened. The culprits would at least have been unmasked and labeled, and probably jailed with the result of our having a country where nobody could possibly feel free to say such a thing. Not even the Donald in his off-handed throwaway manner.
It would be worse than talking about killing someone in the street and not losing a supporter. It would be akin to feeling free he could commit war crimes off the bat. And therefore he would be a self confessed criminal before even being elected.
By letting our historic crimes stand unchallenged, we allow such treasonous comments to happen, and we all should be disgusted to our cores.
I know I am.
Duh, if you make me President I'll not only make America a rogue nation, I'll make myself into an international war criminal as well! - D. Trump (Cruz and Rubio too I think)

(90,767 posts)obviously, easy to get away with.
Sure, it's an outrageously sick thing to say. (That you would torture) And, obviously, (again) such a person should never be president.
But it's far more outrageously sick that those who are guilty of torture (Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld, etc..) got away with it.

(23,099 posts)Waterboarding is torture and people have been convicted of it in the past. Just because some partisan lawyer tries to muddy the water and say it's not what it is, doesn't mean he's telling the truth. Woo just provided the fig leaf Bush requested and lied for his boss. Repugs have no morals or ethical values, it's always about what's expedient for me, right now. Trump has disqualified himself in so very many ways and this just adds to the pile of poo.
