Brown, Warren neck and neck in Globe poll
Source: Boston Globe
Despite a five-week drubbing over her claims to Native American heritage, Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren remains neck and neck with US Senator Scott Brown, a Republican, as she heads into Saturdays state party convention, a new Globe poll shows.
But there are signs that the controversy has wounded the first-time candidate, whose entrance into the race came with a star power that galvanized Democrats and catapulted the contest into one of the most closely watched in the nation.
Although the vast majority of voters said the issue would not affect their vote, 31 percent of self-described independents a critical voting bloc said the issue makes them less likely to support Warren in November. And though the Harvard professors popularity has risen one percentage point, to 48 percent, since the Globe polled in March, the percentage of detractors has climbed more precipitously, by nine points to 32 percent.
The poll shows Brown in a strong position. The incumbents job approval rating is at a comfortable 60 percent, with just 31 percent of voters saying they disapprove of the work he is doing in Washington.

(10,115 posts)She is being constantly hit on she can't prove her heritage, she has claimed her heritage at some times and not at other times, she took advantage of of minority hiring practices, she has not done a good job of being out in front of the story, she is a liar, or any shot someone wants to take. So, again, what is the story because it seems to be anything someone wants to throw at her.

(13,190 posts)when they picked BRAIN DEAD Martha Coakley as there candidate now it's going to be very hard to get that seat back unless the people in that state get so tired of Brown and throw him out. I don't know if Warren can pull this one out since the so called native mess because the rethugs are going to keep her on the defense on this until the election

In short, people are buying his I'm the common man idiocy.

(14,881 posts)and the economy and how wall street's gambling with our money damaged our economy. And how now wall street is trying to buy this election. (or words to that effect)
There is plenty of time until the election. They should have addressed it in full the 1st week and moved forward. Too late for that, but it's past time to end this silliness and move on to matters of substance.
Somebody suggested this response yesterday. Treat it like the petty nonsense that it is and move forward.
Oooh, and then there is this gem:
"Only 19 percent of voters said they were very familiar with stories about Browns fund-raising from Wall Street interests, with 37 percent saying they were somewhat familiar."
Mass
(27,315 posts)that they have not made the case about Brown and have not let others make it (stupid pact signed with Brown about third parties).

There has been relatively few ads except the candidates' ads.

(27,315 posts)It may be time for the campaign to start talking about what matters: why Scott Brown is not the moderate he claims to be. Sadly, they have not been making the case, hence his popularity in a state that is by large unenrolled.
What people are missing is that Brown is not eroding Warren by its attacks, so we dont need to defend her. What he is doing, however, is preventing a serious attack on his likability.
BTW, this is why we needed primaries. So, no thanks to those who made sure these primaries did not happen (Marisa de Franco may still be on the ballot, but it is not the same thing that if others more credible candidates were. Let's just hope Marisa will be on another ballot soon. She is impressive for a candidate with very limited finances).

(16,987 posts)And I don't mean that in an eggheaded way. I mean they should associate Scott Brown with Mitch McConnell (odious man) and the like, and remind people that Brown is in a backward, repressive and regressive party.
From what I read online, there are some progressive groups in Mass. already doing this, though.
Iliyah
(25,111 posts)believing all this BS but MASS, noooooooo.
I know there are prejudices all other the country but Mass probably have a few of them, not many, so I just can't see this being an issue.
Both are polling below 50% but are even.
