Obama praises Argentina's 'man in a hurry' Macri for reforms

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday championed Argentina's new center-right leader Mauricio Macri as an example for other countries in Latin America, praising the fast pace of reforms to strengthen the economy.
Obama, on a two-day visit to Argentina that marks a detente after years of tensions, said Argentina under Macri was poised to play a more influential role on the global stage.
In his first 100 days in office, Macri has distanced himself from South America's leftist bloc, old allies of former President Cristina Fernandez, and sought a thaw in relations with Western capitals as he seeks new investment in Latin America's No. 3 economy.
"I can tell you President Macri is a man in hurry," Obama told a joint news conference after the two leaders held talks.

(24,010 posts)1. Rotters is wrong. Mauricio Macri is NOT a 'center-right' leader. He is a corporate fascist!
2. President Obama should NOT be endorsing him. He is putting the U.S. on the WRONG SIDE AGAIN in Latin America, extending a half a century of BAD POLICY.
I applaud President Obama for normalizing relations with Cuba and his visit to Cuba, and I applaud him for supporting the Colombia/FARC peace talks. These actions are both excellent for Latin America and excellent for U.S./Latin American relations (which took a huge hit when Sec of State Clinton supported the fascist military coup in Honduras). But to turn right around and support this fascist asshole in Argentina is lamentable.

(164 posts)Mauricio Macri, who has ties to Jorge Videla's regime and who tries to sweep the still painful atrocities of Argentina's Dirty War under the carpet. Macri is a right-wing neo-liberal, and his policies will help, to the detriment of the large majority of the Argentinean people, only the multinational corporations.

(164 posts)Really, I thought President Obama was better than that.
This is what Macri has done so far:
