Poll: Seven in 10 people hold unfavorable view of Donald Trump

Source: CBS News

For Americans of nearly every race, gender, political persuasion and location, disdain for Donald Trump runs deep, saddling the Republican front-runner with unprecedented unpopularity as he tries to overcome recent campaign setbacks.

Seven in 10 people, including close to half of Republican voters, have an unfavorable view of Trump, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. It's an opinion shared by majorities of men and women; young and old; conservatives, moderates and liberals; and whites, Hispanics and blacks - a devastatingly broad indictment of the billionaire businessman.

Even in the South, a region where Trump has won GOP primaries decisively, close to 70 percent view him unfavorably. And among whites without a college education, one of Trump's most loyal voting blocs, 55 percent have a negative opinion.

Trump still leads the Republican field in delegates and has built a loyal following with a steady share of the Republican primary electorate. But the breadth of his unpopularity raises significant questions about how he could stitch together enough support in the general election to win the White House.

The article goes on to say that Trump's perception by the general public is getting worse, it's dropped by 10 percentage points since February. Very obviously, as people get to know more about him they get sick to their stomach.

It's no wonder the powers that be in the GOP are looking for ways to stop
Trump's candidacy. Problem is, whoever they anoint will probably end up
still being viewed unfavorably by a majority of people.

He's recently released a video where he gives a speech which quite clearly gives the impression he wants the nomination.

to the donald's credit he's no worse than the others in the field. in fact he may even be the best, in this democrat's opinion.

this annoys me tho; it's not that donald has been any more offensive these last few weeks, but rather that the press has turned against him.

i've always figured his candidacy was an inside job, probably brokered by bill.

Ted Cruz, who is seeking to catch Trump in the Republican delegate count, is viewed unfavorably by 59 percent

, while 55 percent have negative views of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Interestingly, Sanders wasn't even mentioned in the poll results.

the worse his ratings will be. He never actually says anything, and that becomes obvious when repeated so many times. I predict that soon it will be 8 out of 10 unfavorable.

And he has continued to, mostly, win and get worse ratings since.

If he gets the nomination this picture won't be so clear to non-believers on either side.
