Los Angeles County violated Constitution by putting Christian cross on seal: judge
Source: RAWSTORY
A federal judge has ruled that Los Angeles County violated the U.S. and state constitutions by placing a tiny cross atop a depiction of a California mission on its official seal, despite claims by local leaders that it was done for historical accuracy.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder comes in response to a lawsuit filed by civil liberties activists and others who objected to the inclusion of a religious symbol on a government emblem and marks the latest twist in a six-decade saga that has seen the county seal redesigned three times.
The judge granted a permanent injunction against the countys use of the seal, presumably requiring another make over unless her order is overturned on appeal.

(90,061 posts)The deity, being the deity, must be unique, maximal, since it rules all. "God" is (theoretically) OK, but Allah, Jehovah, Shiva, etc. are not.
I dont agree, I think "no religion" mean no religion, nothing about religion in politics, religious arguments have no weight in law or politics, except as the opinions of certain people, who have the right to hold them, as long as the behave and uphold the law themselves.
But that is the argument as I've seen it.

(8,921 posts)So, let's change the name of the city as well.
Los Angeles is "The Angels" in Spanish.
In New Mexico, there is a city named Las Cruces or "The Crosses" in Spanish,
I guess we'll have to change that name as well.
