US Missile Defense Will Happen in South Korea: Carter

Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Friday that the proposed placement of a U.S. missile defense system in South Korea is "going to happen" despite Chinese opposition.

Washington and Seoul began talks last month on deploying the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, system to combat the threat of North Korean missiles, following a recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch by Pyongyang.

Carter was speaking Friday on U.S. defense policy toward the Asia-Pacific ahead of a trip to India and the Philippines. He was asked if the THAAD deployment was going to happen.

"It's going to happen," Carter told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. "No, it's a necessary thing. It's between us and the South Koreans. It's part of protecting our own forces on the Korean Peninsula and protecting South Korea. It has nothing to do with the Chinese."

While China will use this as an excuse to expend more resources on its military buildup, they know this system is 100% in response to Pyongyang.

The new Chinese DF-41, the mobile missile platform with a MIRV warhead, with the longest range in the world, is more than capable of going on a northern route over the pole to hit the US. A defense system in SK is worthless against a Chinese strike.

to motivate China to reign in their North Korean allies. China is single handedly propping up the NK state. If they rolled back trade even a little bit, we'll have a new government in NK within the next year.

The Kim's have insured their dynasty by elevating to themselves to god-like status. Whoever replaces has to be a puppet to China and a Kim.
