'Dentist of horror' Jacobus van Nierop jailed for eight years

Source: The Guardian

A Dutch man nicknamed the “dentist of horror”, who mutilated more than 100 patients, has been jailed for eight years by a French court.

Jacobus van Nierop, 51, pulled out healthy teeth, broke patients’ jaws, and caused abscesses and blood poisoning in often unnecessary and painful procedures, judges were told during his trial in March.

He was charged with aggravated assault on vulnerable people and fraud over claims he tried to get money from patients and insurance companies between 2009 and 2012.

As well as the prison term, Van Nierop was banned for life from practising as a dentist.

... where do you get some of these stories? God, this one seems out of the Spanish Inquisition straight out of the middle ages. Not to be outdone, I think we had a pediatric dentist who tortured small children on papoose boards right here in America only a few years ago. Don't know whatever happened to that one.

Instead of 8 years, they should have thrown away the key on this sadist.

... keep on scanning dear. You are the best at scraping up news stories world-wide. Some people would rather not be aware that such people exist in the world, but I'm not one of them. We need to keep our eyes and minds wide open to what exists so that we will know what we're dealing with if & when it comes knocking in our midst.

Pediatric dentist's lawyer filed motion to say he is not competent to stand trial

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Dr. Schneider, who had a respected pediatric dental clinic in Jacksonville for over 40 years, was put out of business June of last year by numerous malpractice complaints.

Schneider's lawyers have now filed a motion to declare Schneider incompetent to go to trial. However, he is scheduled to be in court again in June for the malpractice complaints and Medicaid fraud, for which he is pleading not guilty.

Just a note: That defense doesn't work very well in Florida -- especially when it is true. I have no knowledge of this particular person's status other than this short article.

Makes you wonder when things went wrong in his mind, what with being in the business for 40 years. He surely didn't torture kids for the entire 40 years, did he? And what about the suits against him? Going to check and see if a book was written in the followup to sacking him. There's some weird people running around out here amongst us. "The Sociopath's Among Us". or "The Sociopath Next Door". I think there's a book by the name of that last one.
