Ted Cruz says he'll have 'major announcement' this afternoon
Source: USA Today
Ted Cruz says he'll make a "major announcement" Wednesday afternoon in Indiana, news that has sparked speculation he may name a running mate, despite trailing Donald Trump in the delegate count.
The Cruz event is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET in Indianapolis.
Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe earlier this week confirmed the campaign had arrived at a short list of possible vice presidential candidates.
Speculation has focused on Carly Fiorina, a former GOP presidential candidate who endorsed Cruz and has campaigned for him. NBC News reported that the former Hewlett-Packard CEO was spotted in Indianapolis ahead of the Cruz event.

It's not like people are lining up to offer her positions in higher management. A competent pre-convention "desperation run" might improve her stock--considerably more than she improved HP's stock....
It's an interesting way to "run" for Vice President, too. She might well do better than Cruz himself, and Trump might consider then picking her up, if only to defray criticism of his own abysmal business record by offering a running mate who is even worse.
My god, the above sounds so stupid and cynical to me, and yet I won't be surprised to see it happen. Our country is FUBAR.
Edit: Now I'm thinking there is more to this move. Cruz and Fiorina bust off on a third party run right now, in time to make the ballot in most states. They make a pile of money and maybe toss the election into Congress, where Paul Ryan wins without anyone actually voting....

(16,191 posts)Cruz has 562 delegates and Trump has 954. Rubio, despite "suspending" his campaign, has asked the state parties to delay releasing his delegates and still holds 172. Pulling Rubio into the Cruz campaign would bump them to 734, making them competitive against Trump again.
Fiorina had 1 delegate. Just one. And she didn't ask that it be retained, so it may already be released anyway.

(2,550 posts)Bernie has missed almost 100% of his votes since running.
Chris Christie did an awful job as governor since running.
John Kasich is neglecting his state.
Ted Cruz missed almost 100% since running.
I think they're all neglectful and should be doing their job; even though they are running for President, they are paid to do their jobs. It's awful.

(35,662 posts)as a citizen of NJ, I can tell you we were way better off with the fool off on his errand, as he does a great deal of injury when he's actually working. Christie does things like limit the amount of housing the poor can avail themselves of, stack the deck against teachers with PERC.
As far as Bernie goes, I'm not sure you're correct on that but if you are, his votes pale in comparison to the massive amount of public education he's done about our rigged economy. Too bad he is the product of a rigged election system; otherwise it might have done us all some good.

But, as political moves go, choosing Fiorina is pointless. If I were Cruz (and I'd never be, not in a billion trillion years, but for the sake of discussion) I'd be throwing everything I had at Rubio to convince him to change his mind. Rubio is the best chance Cruz has to win the nomination. Picking Fiorina is just desperate and sad.

no Cruz, no contested Republican convention, and then my long buys in popcorn stocks go south.
for our society to take its next evolutionary step, i want the GOP to have the nastiest convention possible.

I'm stocking up on the popcorn already.
