Hindu tailor hacked to death in Bangladesh: police

Source: AFP

At least two unknown assailants hacked a Hindu tailor to death in central Bangladesh Saturday, police said, amid a rise in attacks on religious minorities by extremist groups in the Muslim-majority nation.

Police said the victim, named as Nikhil Chandra Joarder, 50, may have been murdered for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammed several years ago.

"They came on a motorcycle and attacked him as he sat on a roadside. They hacked him on his head, neck and hand," deputy chief of Tangail district police Aslam Khan told AFP.

Police officials told AFP they were investigating whether the killing was linked to Islamist militants suspected of a series of minority killings, or was tied to a family dispute.

Well, not exactly. It's only death for the female.

Oh, and the exceptions: If both parties to the kiss are male, or both female, then woohoo, death to all.

... that does make a difference. Yankee born me ended up in the deep south one time for about 4 years. I know how hateful those people can be. The only reason they are passing these discriminative laws is because their bigoted white electorate is demanding it. When you move down there, it's like moving to a backward foreign country. Quite a shock.

The law having passed, I imagine the crude ones have been emboldened. They are just laying in wait to accost anyone who even remotely looks LGBT. Sad thing is that no matter the nationality, if you look the least bit different (you don't even have to be LGBT), you will get bullied and harassed.

That's all.

...for wildlife enthusiasts (I'm a birder who works on reptiles for a living), there's lots to be said about that region - enormous mangrove forests, for one.

But now is clearly not the time to go there.
