Israeli Troops Kill Palestinian Bystander After Israeli Cars Attacked
Source: Reuters
JERUSALEM | By Ori Lewis
Israeli troops mistakenly killed a Palestinian bystander on Tuesday while responding with gunfire to a petrol bomb and rock attack on Israeli vehicles in the occupied West Bank, the military said.
An earlier statement from the military had identified the Palestinian as an assailant. The mayor of his village said he was a 15-year-old.
The military said several Palestinians threw petrol bombs and stones at vehicles, injuring three civilians, on a highway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem that traverses the West Bank. Israeli media reports said two of those hurt were foreign tourists.
Troops gave chase and "after an initial inquiry, it appears that uninvolved bystanders were mistakenly hit during the pursuit," a military spokeswoman said, identifying one of them as the Palestinian killed in the incident.

Just so we don't get confused, though. Morally, Palestinians throwing petrol bombs at Israeli civilian cars with intent to kill innocent civilians (and severely wounding several) is worse than Israeli security forces giving chase to the attackers and hitting a bystander by mistake.

(3,967 posts)It is tragic that a bystander was killed.
A tragic situation doesn't mean we have to turn our brains off, and join the Israel hating, Palestinian terror excusing chorus.
Let's go through this again.
Imagine it happened, oh, outside of New York City.
A group of young men overlooking an interstate throw oil to make it slippery, then throw 20 pound rocks and firebombs at oncoming traffic, causing numerous crashes and several serious injuries. This was intended to cause, and could well have caused numerous deaths. It was attempted murder and aggrevated assault with intent to kill. This was a terrorist attack by Palestinians, and there is no other way to describe it. It is in the context of a surge in terrorist attacks.
Security forces then have a description of the attackers and try to catch them, using force if necessary. They mistakenly shoot someone who was not the attacker, and that causes a fatality. The government starts an investigation of this mistake occurred.
The people who intentionally tried to murder others not only are morally responsible for the direct harm their actions caused, but for any harm caused in reasonable response by security forces. The security forces ought to exercise good judgment in pursuit of terrorists even though that can lead to bystanders being harmed. When Palestinian terrorists commit 200 attacks over six months, there will be some situations when bystanders are harmed in the response, but that doesn't mean that the response should be to sit there and say "oh, how unfortunate that there was a terror attack. would the terrorists please turn themselves in?" Nope, Israel is right to try to apprehend the terrorists. They are also right to investigate how the bystanders were mistaken for the terrorists, and try to continually the frequency of such mistakes, even as they must try to apprehend terrorists.
The one thing here that is easy to identify as something that shouldn't have been done is: the attempted murder of known innocents by terrorists. The terrorists see this as a win-win situation. They win if they kill Israelis and they win if Palestinians are hurt in the response to the attack.
Has the PA been criticizing them? Oops. They forgot. Not only forgot, but are crying crocodile tears to the UN about it.
Right headline for this story: Palestinian terror attack and attempted murder ends with death of one bystander.

Just like Israels last adventure in the destruction of Gaza killing over 1000 civilians.
They kill 3 we kill 1000 and they do it with our taxpayer dollar weapons.
Perhaps Sheldon Adelson should finance Israels next Operation bloody glove or whatever.
