Anti-Trump delegates say they will force roll call vote on rules

Source: The Hill

July 18, 2016, 02:51 pm

CLEVELAND--The band of Republican delegates mounting a last-ditch effort to snatch the nomination away from Donald Trump is claiming a last-minute victory in a push to force every delegate to vote on the party's rules on the convention floor.

Delegates Unbound, a group of delegates that support unbinding the delegates to free them from their pledge to vote for Trump, announced Monday afternoon it had secured enough support to force that roll call vote.

The delegates aim to vote down the rules package in its entirety in order to force the party back to the drawing board under pressure to unbind delegates. But the effort will likely only gum up the process, as it remains extremely unlikely the effort can find the 1,237 delegates needed.

“Despite every obstacle thrown in our way, the movement of all the stakeholders involved in this effort have gained a majority of the delegates in 10 states," said Dane Waters, co-founder of Delegates Unbound, in a statement released just before the convention began. "Now we take this fight to the floor." The group needed majorities in seven states in order to force that roll call vote, so the effort appears to have eclipsed that mark. But that's still far short from the majority needed.

She's just a high school government teacher; not a party boss or elected official, and she's causing all these headaches for GOP establishment people.

Kendal is from Colorado, a Christian Conservative, vehemently anti-abortion and (I think) a Cruzer.

I'm willing to be her ally this very one time.

It cheers me up just to see this story, even though it won't stop Trump the Chump from becoming the Republican nominee.

I know there's a rule against firearms in the convention center, but as gun enthusiasts so often say themselves: "What good are rules or laws if a gun owner doesn't abide by them?"

He made a point of taking off his badge and throwing it on the ground. Not a minute later, he picked it up off the floor and put it back on.

Someone just discovered Republican obstructionism!

The young commentators on the streaming ABC News site brought up a very good point. If the con leaders just allowed a roll call vote, it would have gone down to defeat but it would have avoided the spectacle we saw. Now, there's at best a perception of disunity in the GOP ranks.
