WATCH Trump to Gold Star Father: 'I've Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

In his first response to a searing charge from bereaved Army father Khizr Khan that he’d “sacrificed nothing” for his country, Donald Trump claimed that he had in fact sacrificed by employing “thousands and thousands of people.” He also suggested that Khan’s wife didn’t speak because she was forbidden to as a Muslim and questioned whether Khan’s words were his own.

“Who wrote that? Did Hillary's script writers write it?” Trump said in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos. “I think I've made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard.”

On the last night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Gold Star father Khizr Khan, his wife Ghazala by his side, recounted to the crowd how his son was killed in 2004 by a car bomb in Iraq.

Khan also chastised Trump for seeking to ban Muslims from entering the country, saying that his son, U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, would not have been able to serve under a Trump presidency. ..................

The GOP has released a monster!! No empathy whatsoever!!--It is all about him.

BTW--Mrs. Khan--the mother, was on The Last Word last night and she spoke up eloquently. Once more Trump has made a fool of himself. I really do not see how Trump can be even or slightly ahead in the polls (waiting for Hillary's bounce, which she will have).

This is more of the same. He thinks he can get away with attacking anyone who criticises him. With Republicans, it seems he's right. Whether he's thought about if it will work with swing voters, I don't know. But "he's gone too far this time" is the refrain of this crazy year, and Trump is still competitive in the polls.

In politics, as in life, there is a time to talk, and a time to not talk..wait..talk later..or not at all..

In going after Khan like he did, when he did..he said the worst thing. and...he knocked the mom/wife too..which had nothing to do with Kahn's speech. Knocking the wife/mom today, maybe it. She was just standing by her husband. quietly.......therefore.........

Another ethnic stereotype The Donald loves to exploit.

She lost a son. She's a private citizen. I'm a big-mouthed liberal and I couldn't have voiced my sorrow on a public stage. Her husband spoke for both of them.

If you watched Lawrence O'Donnell you heard her speak from the heart.

It's impossible to imagine a more vile excuse for a human being than D Trump. Yes, you can bring up horrible characters from history and I'll agree they were awful. But Trump grew up in a free country with every possible advantage and chooses to be a scum-sucking piece of vermin.

while Trump was on the board to get the memorial built, he blew off most of the meetings, “* One official of the Vietnam Commission, who has attended all the meetings, maintains Trump has been to only two or three out of 20 meetings. This was confirmed by another member of the commission. The first time he attended a meeting was to launch the commission, one source says, and the second was when he arrived with a reporter who was profiling him.”

As per usual, not an outright lie (like he never was part of the commission) but hardly the truth.

His nastiness to the Khans, then the nasty comment about how "she wasn't allowed to speak". It wasn't that at all. She was INVITED to speak and she couldn't, because of her son's picture (reference the O'Donnell interview for that). She is still so utterly grief stricken with this loss, that seeing his picture so big like that was too much for her. SHE was trying to keep her composure.
