Commercials designed to boost goodwill for the labor union representing local grocery store workers are hitting the airwaves including a spot taking aim at Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke and his connection to Walmart.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655 represents some 10,000 workers in the region, most of them employees at grocery stores Schnucks, Dierbergs and Shop n Save. The union partnered with UFCW Local 88, which runs many of the seafood and deli departments in the grocers.
Commercials touting the higher wages and benefits of union employment and the local's philanthropy will run for about four weeks on basic and cable TV in the St. Louis market.
UFCW Local 655 David Cook said in a statement it was the first ad campaign the union has sponsored and called it part of an ambitious outreach effort to highlight the good we do, and our commitment to customers and St. Louis. We want our customers to know that when they shop with us, we make our community better.
