China strongly warns Japan not to send SDF to South China Sea

Source: Japan Today

China strongly warned a high-level Japanese official around late June that Tokyo should not send its Self-Defense Forces to join U.S. operations that test the freedom of navigation in the disputed South China Sea, diplomatic sources said Saturday.

Japan will “cross a red line” if SDF vessels take part in U.S. freedom of navigation operations, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua told the Japanese official, the sources said, adding that the ambassador even hinted at military action if Japan crosses the line.

According to the sources, Cheng told the high-level Japanese official in Tokyo that Japan should not take part in a “joint military action with U.S. forces that is aimed at excluding China in the South China Sea.”

He also said China “will not concede on sovereignty issues and is not afraid of military provocations.”

This is not good, Japan, does not like China, and if anyone thinks so, they don't know history to well, the memories from both countries are very long, very long.

China, the United States and Japan will not blink when it comes to force protection and the agreement reached after 1945

6. Pretty well, if we keep, in a sense, "subsidizing" their war footing by doing business there

Though you're right in the sense that something will have to "give," or "pop," at some point.

I just hope it's not a fusillade of artillery shells.

For many reasons; Chinas own economy has slowed, there is a lot more competition from other countries, and their costs have been rising.
Soon we'll be seeing "Made in Vietnam" Singapore & Bangladesh more than China

have the usual card to play, one that's been in their hand and flashed from time to time for decades: Jingoism and nationalism.

The reason for China's backwardness?

Outsiders.

The reason for not having a great standard of living?

Outsiders.

The reason for having lost all the territory it deserves, whatever the nationality and national goals of the temporary, current inhabitants?

Outsiders.

With Japan being an especially bad bogeyman.

Lost my job: Lao wai
Car accident: Lao wai
Can't get it up: Lao wai
hang nail: Lao wai

I've heard it here since 2008. Under Xi Jinping, it's only gotten worse because he is a huge xenophobe. Give China jobs and money, the rest of you piss off and die.

Proof communism is a failure the world over.

The Japanese Self Defense Force is no slouch. They've got Aegis class destroyers, helicopter carriers, F-15s, etc. If China moves aggressively on them, they'll find the Japanese will put up a fight.

Despite disagreements about our military presence in Japan, if China's dumb enough to initiate hostilities, the US will absolutely lend its military might to protect Japan.

If China gets too provocative, the US will make them rethink their policy positions. They already have a carrier strike group based in Japan, sending it to the China Sea will usually get the message across.
