September 17, 2016, 09:20 Trump claims NY explosion was a bomb without confirmation
By Evelyn Rupert
Donald Trump, taking the podium at a rally in Colorado Springs, announced to the crowd that a bomb had exploded in New York. But it was at that point unclear what caused explosion that injured 29 people.
"Just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly whats going on, but, boy we are really in a time. We better get very tough, folks," Trump said. "Its a terrible thing thats going on in our world and in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant. Well see what it is.
..........................................
Around 11:45 p.m., Hillary Clinton responded to the incident as she was fielding questions from press on her plane. She said she had been briefed on the situation and had been in touch with the mayor's office.
But she said aside from supporting first responders and victims, Clinton said she would "have more to say about it when we actually have some facts." ......................................

Cnn also just showed Hillary responding. She did great when asked this question: Note the contrast with Trumpy jumping to conclusions!!
From OP
Asked about Trump's hasty response, Clinton said: "I think it's important to know the facts about any incident like this."

Re: Trump, Clinton said, "I think it is always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions."
Also:
.....................President Barack Obama has been briefed on the situation following his remarks at the Black Congressional Caucus Gala.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was also briefed on the incident.

Donald Trump had a very different response when asked about the incident in Chelsea. He took the stage in Colorado and declared the incident to be the work of a 'bomb'. 'A bomb went off in New York and no one knows what's going on. We've got to get very tough folks,' he said

'We have been in touch with authorities in New York City. And I will have more to say about it when we have more information, Clinton said.

(1,493 posts)If he's so certain it was a bomb -- he must have inside information that nobody else has. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Trump sympathizer or something else more nefarious to give him an edge of his "law and order" campaign.

(6,665 posts)There is nuance in language, surely, but I'm trying to figure out how the two are different. I agree that this isn't an issue that leads to a fruitful outcome.

(9,766 posts)It was a bomb. I don't understand why this topic is even being discussed.
Zynx
(21,328 posts)No one had confirmed that it was anything in particular. Gas explosions in NYC have been fairly common and at the time it occurred it couldn't be ruled out.

(2,003 posts)So are we supposed to criticize Trump for calling a bomb a bomb before it was officially declared a bomb when everyone, including Hillary Clinton herself knew it was a bomb?
This story is a big fail.

(70,047 posts)very premature to say it was a bomb at that point. The police were barely on the scene when Trump made his announcement to the rally crowd.

And they wonder why people don't believe a word they say.

(1,384 posts)Or the Olympic park bomber. I think what they're saying is at this point they see I conection to international terrorism, which judging by the so far crude devices, I would be inclined to agree. The Boston Bombers may be another parallel though. Similar MO. Perhaps we're looking at internationally inspired domestic terrorism.

(1,910 posts)Does not matter if it turns out to be a bomb. Trump can not "be right". At the time he made his comments no one knew what had happened. Thats the point. It could have been a bomb, an accident, construction materials. He again went off with out having enough information.
He obviously is saying it must be Islamic terrorism. Again, we do not know. An angry tenant, a right wing nut, who knows the motives yet.
He can't say bomb and imply Islamic terrorism every time, be right some times, wrong others. You have to be measured and wait for the information.

(23,138 posts)misinformed, and then they would have claimed that the first order of the first day will be to fire the people who misinform leaders about bombs. He's just so predictable. He only knows one story. He's always right, and if he's not right, it's someone else's fault, like when he claimed (falsely) yesterday that Clinton started the birther movement. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault.

He hopes to convince leaners and undecideds with fear.
Thus he always says times are very bad and terrible.
And he always says the solution is to get very tough and vigilant. Think Putin's KGB combined with East German Stassi; everybody spying on everybody and being reactive.
Trump is running to be Big Brother. He is stuck in 1949 when Nineteen Eighty Four was published and when America was great (in his mind). He was three years old, favored son of a bigoted rich man, just forming his memories then.

This was a bombing. The identity of the perp(s) is still unknown. Whether it's connected to the NJ bomb is unknown.

(2,103 posts)At least 29 people have been injured in an explosion in a crowded district of New York City.
The cause of the blast late on Saturday in Chelsea remains unclear. Mayor Bill de Blasio described it as "intentional" but said that there were no known links to terror.
The force of the blast blew out windows and could be heard several blocks away.
Another device, reportedly a pressure cooker rigged with wires, was later found in the same district.

(26,224 posts)Why Trump supporters? Because if it had been real terrorists then they could have easily done alot more damage than whats happened so far but by limiting what they did they stoke the fires of fear and terror in people and the Republicans are the ones who do have a deep and long history of playing the "Terrorists" fear card before and during elections to drum up extra votes.

(50,236 posts)You have a pressure cooker with wires coming out of it that blew up. Unlikely it's a corned beef gone wrong. There are plenty of things to go after Trump on, but 99.9% of all people hearing about the explosion will think "bomb." Hillary ought to let this one slide.

(22,911 posts)That happened a number of moths ago. It was returning to Egypt from Europe, there were reports of smoke in the cockpit that were not part of the initial reporting, but Trump was already calling it an ISIS strike. Authorities are still not sure what happened from public comments. ISIS never claimed responsibility for that plane going down. Authorities recovered both black boxes. The fire started either in a forward lavatory or in a storage area beneath it. Essential controls for operating the plane were disrupted by the fire which seems to be why the plane went down, rather than being "blown out of the sky" the way Trump claimed at the time. It could have been one of those high tech battery melt down incidents, but no one has talked about a supposed ISIS attack on that plane for a very long time, and Trump of course issued his immediate terrorist guarantee and has fallen silent since.
He will always claim whatever it is that fits his chosen narrative, whether or not there are facts to back it at the time. Some times it turns out to be true, other times false, facts are not his concern.
PearliePoo2
(7,768 posts)Trump is a big braggart who thinks he knows everything.
When the facts become known on the Egyptair tragedy, and if it is indeed, as suspected, a mechanical/equipment malfunction, I REALLY want Dump questioned about his rush to judgement. Someone must ask him!
Dump is a disgusting "know-it-all" who really knows very little.

(61 posts)Months ago when the incidents happened in France and other countries the press was saying that if we had an attack here on US soil before the election then Trump will win on Nov 8. They based this assumption on Trumps strong stance on keeping Muslims out of the US, because in his mind only the Muslims do this kind of thing. And his strong stance on ISIS, because he knows more than the generals do. So with this stuff happening now does anyone see his poll numbers going up out of fear and him actually winning on Nov 8??

(11,605 posts)The Trumpkins are claiming "media bias" and "cover up" because they don't mention that Hillary also called the attacks bombings. But Hillary did so hours later, after the NYPD had already issued a statement and around the same time De Blasio spoke.
