Shooting reported at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus

Source: CBS News

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign sent out an alert early Sunday morning warning of a shooting on campus.

Police later confirmed there was a shooting, but have provided few other details.

The City of Champaign tweeted early Sunday that there were two shooting incidents, and that a total of five people were wounded. It is not clear, however, which shooting took place on campus.

The shooting was first reported around 1 a.m. on Sunday. About two hours later, the school sent out an alert saying the gunman had left the campus.

Police are investigating a shooting near Third and Green. Please avoid the area and call @ChampaignPD if you have information. #UIUC

Terrible. I went to grad school at UIUC so it’s sad to see stuff like this happening there.
