Donald Trump Opens A New Line Of Attack On Hillary Clinton: Her Marriage

Source: New York Times

by Patrick Healy and Maggie Haberman
September 30, 2016

Donald J. Trump unleashed a slashing new attack on Hillary Clinton over Bill Clinton’s sexual indiscretions on Friday as he sought to put the Clintons’ relationship at the center of his political argument against her before their next debate.

Mr. Trump, aiming to unnerve Mrs. Clinton, even indicated that he was rethinking his statement at their last debate that he would “absolutely” support her if she won in November, saying: “We’re going to have to see. We’re going to see what happens. We’re going to have to see.”

In an interview with The New York Times, he also contended that infidelity was “never a problem” during his three marriages, though his first ended in an ugly divorce after Mr. Trump began a relationship with the woman who became his second wife.

-snip-

He said he was bringing up Mr. Clinton’s infidelities because he thought they would repulse female voters and turn them away from the Clintons, and because he was eager to unsettle Mrs. Clinton in their next two debates and on the campaign trail.

I would like to see the actual question and quote. A chill ran down my back as we waited for Trump to answer that last question in the debate. Clinton explained it perfectly - we live in a democracy and you accept the will of the people. Trump after prompting finally said he would support Clinton, but that is not even the right answer. The right answer is Clinton's answer - I don't expect Trump to support Clinton, but I expect him to support our democracy and the will of the people.

He really should have had his current wife's background investigated before marrying her. Those nude photos are not helping, nor are the rumors of "escorting". A more likely scenario is that when he no longer had the Ivana excuse for not marrying her, Marla forced the issue.

...and think he'll be back in office. So if he undermines Bill, Hillary will lose support with women. Alternately, he's also thinking that women think like him. That a woman who sticks with an unfaithful man is stupid, a sucker, weak, etc. But unless there's evidence that Bill's cheating on Hillary *right now* the past infidelities are past and women see Hillary keeping the marriage together as strength, not weakness.

A lot undoubtedly identify with here, maybe having husbands who cheated, but got past it to make the marriage stronger than ever. So, all Trump is doing is juxtaposing his domestic failure with Hillary's success. He's chipping away at himself and he doesn't even know it.

Donald Trump was married, cheated on his wife and then divorced her and married his paramour. He then cheated on HER and eventually divorced her, and married a THIRD wife who has appeared numerous times in naked "spreads".

So, what's the deal - Hillary Clinton has NEVER cheated on Bill, and forgave him for his peccadilloes. Donald Trump has cheated as much as Bill with no apologies.

Hillary is our candidate, Bill isn't. Donald is their candidate.

One of those would be from her own (United Methodist) church's beliefs about divorce.

Divorce

God’s plan is for lifelong, faithful marriage. The church must be on the forefront of premarital, marital, and postmarital counseling in order to create and preserve strong marriages. However, when a married couple is estranged beyond reconciliation, even after thoughtful consideration and counsel, divorce is a regrettable alternative in the midst of brokenness. We grieve over the devastating emotional, spiritual, and economic consequences of divorce for all involved, understanding that women and especially children are disproportionately impacted by such burdens. As the church we are concerned about high divorce rates. It is recommended that methods of mediation be used to minimize the adversarial nature and fault-finding that are often part of our current judicial processes, encouraging reconciliation wherever possible. We also support efforts by governments to reform divorce laws and other aspects of family law in order to address negative trends such as high divorce rates.

Although divorce publicly declares that a marriage no longer exists, other covenantal relationships resulting from the marriage remain, such as the nurture and support of children and extended family ties. We urge respectful negotiations in deciding the custody of minor children and support the consideration of either or both parents for this responsibility in that custody not be reduced to financial support, control, or manipulation and retaliation. The welfare of each child is the most important consideration.

Divorce does not preclude a new marriage. We encourage an intentional commitment of the Church and society to minister compassionately to those in the process of divorce, as well as members of divorced and remarried families, in a community of faith where God’s grace is shared by all.
