A police officer died overnight after he was shot by a right-wing extremist in the southern German state of Bavaria on Wednesday, police said.
The gunman opened fire at police on Wednesday, injuring four policemen before he was arrested. Police said he was a member of the Reichsbuerger (Reich citizens) movement, which maintains that the World War Two German Reich continues to exist.
"The seriously injured member of the North Bavaria special forces died in a clinic in the early morning hours (20.10.2016) due to his heavy gunshot wounds," police said in a statement on Thursday.

Four police were wounded as they tried to arrest a man in the Bavarian town of Georgensgmuend, south of Nuremberg.
The suspect, described as a member of the extremist Reichsbuerger movement, opened fire on the officers before he was eventually detained.

The officer's suspected murderer, a member of the far-right "Reichsbürger" movement, was due to appear in court later on Thursday.
The national interior ministry estimates that the number of group members is only in the triple digits. However, they say it may also boast a high number of sympathizers.
In a recent report, Berlin's state intelligence service described the movement as "an extremely diverse range of small groups and individuals who believe in an ideological mixture of conspiracy theories, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic views, and who have been behaving increasingly aggressively for some time."
