Female accuser says Trump grabbed her at U.S. Open in 1998

Source: Politico

Another woman emerged Thursday accusing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump of having groped her in the past. Karena Virginia, a self-described wellness expert and TV personality, alleged that Trump grabbed her arm and touched her breast during an encounter at the U.S. Open in Flushing, Queens, New York, in 1998.

“Hey, look at this one,” she recalled overhearing Trump telling a group of men. “We haven’t seen her before. Look at those legs.” Virginia, speaking alongside attorney Gloria Allred during a news conference in New York, said the interaction occurred while she was waiting for a car to take her home.

He made those comments “as though I was an object rather than a person,” she said, reading from a document. “He then walked up to me and reached his right arm and grabbed my right arm. Then his hand touched the right inside of my breast. I was in shock. I flinched. ‘Don’t you know who I am? Don’t you know who I am?’ That’s what he said to me.”

Acknowledging that she’s been advised that Trump will likely retaliate by calling her a liar or, as he did to Democrat Hillary Clinton in Wednesday’s presidential debate, “a nasty woman.” But she said she was compelled to speak of for herself, her family and the other numerous women who have accused Trump of forcibly kissing and groping them over a span of decades — charges Trump has denied and dismissed as attempts at fame and attention set up by the Clinton campaign.

I know the reasons for a prepared statement. You want the words to be precise and accurate. Still, this was a simple story. She was waiting on a car service outside the US Open, Trump and his group of friends were there, Trump made a sexist remark about her legs, he grabbed her arm and brushed her breast. How hard would that have been to tell?

People have been burying these stories for obvious reasons. The last thing that needs to happen is faltering in the account. And, not everyone watches news on video - some read it.

You are assuming things.

I do support her. That is why I wanted her story to be as powerful and effective as possible. I was offering constructive criticism and nothing more.

I believed this lady's story. Trump has a pattern of abuse. I don't think there is any doubt he wasn't just making up what he said to Billy Bush. He is a sexual deviant and dangerous abuser of women.

I was just observing that reading a prepared statement was IMO less effective than simply letting her tell her story in her own words.

meaning they are probably about to file suit. So whatever she says must go on record in a consistent fashion. This would probably be the statement that she would swear to on a complaint.

Exact wording can and will be thrown back at you if you're ever deposed or compelled to give testimony. It's smart to stick to the written statement when you know you're being filmed.

Her pain was still so raw years after the assault. Without being able to read the statement of her experience I doubt she would have been able to give such a clear and complete statement. The outward event may have seemed simple to you, but the emotional experience was complex, deep and endured a long long time.

It was an honest opinion on my part. Am I not entitled to make a constructive criticism? It's obvious Ms Allred's goal isn't to take Trump to court. She has said that. That boat has sailed. Her goal is to get the truth these women are telling out there and convince people that Donald Trump is a monster who did the things he bragged about doing when he spoke to Billy Bush.

The people who need to be convinced are not us here at DU. It is the people who might still be considering voting for Trump. I happened to believe that someone speaking extemporaneously instead of looking down at a prepared statement would have a better chance at reaching those folks. That's my opinion.

How could anybody let alone any woman vote for Trump?

Hey men in red states in the Great Plains all of you have a mother or sister or daughter how can you vote Trump?

Hey W.V., KT, TN, and AL people how would you like to not be paid for work you did?

Hey Texas folk do you know that Trump is working for Putin and Russia?

Hey factory workers how about Trump using Chinese made goods in his hotel and businesses?

i'm having some difficulty imagining this, as it seems kind of awkward, and you'd end up with at least one arm between the two bodies. probably a highly abridged version of the full story with some context and steps left out, but i hope Allred and Virginia re-edit the summary so it's not as confusing.

Maybe he grabbed her right arm with his right arm to turn her to face him.

Imagine that you are to the right of a person. They are not facing you; their right arm is facing you. You could walk up to them, reach out your right arm and grab their right arm with their right arm. If you were a rude person, you could then turn them to their right so that they would be facing you. I suspect that is what happened.

but i'm not getting a real clear idea of the exact sequence of the interaction, which is going to be a big factor in tRump's whine&cheese celebration when the topic comes up. wouldn't be surprised if the trumpsters were already making hay about this detail, without acknowledging there could be more to the story.

I guess she gave him a US Opening. Of course, Trump is the kind of guy who thinks the mere presence of a woman constitutes an invitation. I have known several guys like that, and they are insufferable. If you say anything to them, all you get is a blank stare. They simply do not get it.
