Reince Priebus: Trump ‘is going to win’

Source: Washington Post

The head of the Republican Party said Sunday that he thinks that — despite polls suggesting otherwise — Donald Trump will win the election. And he played down Trump's controversial claim that the election is rigged, saying that Trump has the right to reserve his options.

“He is going to win,” Reince Priebus, the head of the Republican National Committee, told CBS's John Dickerson on Sunday on “Face the Nation.” “Because I think people have had enough.”

...snip...

Dickerson asked Priebus whether he agrees with Trump's refusal to say that he will accept the election results. Priebus, one of the highest-profile Republicans left defending Trump since House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (Wis.) broke with Trump, minimized the nominee's “rigged” claims.

“What I think the media is missing here is that, to ask a candidate three weeks before the election if they are going to concede — asking for a concession speech — no one does that,” Priebus said. “And I think if . . . you lose by 200 votes in Florida, are you going to concede on election night if you're at 260 electoral votes?”

No one was asking him to concede. He was asked if he would accept the results.
The 2000 analogy is getting tired. Remember, Florida was called for Gore to begin with.

The head of the Republican Party said Sunday that he thinks that — despite polls suggesting otherwise — Donald Trump will win the election. (Priebus said) “What I think the media is missing here is that, to ask a candidate three weeks before the election if they are going to concede — asking for a concession speech — no one does that,”

In other words, yes, he knows Trump is going to lose but he's not allowed to say so. It's like Captain Willard being asked about former classified missions and responding with "Sir, I am unaware of any such activity or operation... nor would I be disposed to discuss such an operation if it did in fact exist, sir."

You were asked whether you agree with Trump's refusal to say he supports the results. Yes or no. Simple.

You were NOT asked whether Trump should issue a concession three weeks before the election .

If he said Trump was going to lose he'd open himself to being blamed when Trump loses so I guess in his situation he really has no choice but to hold the party line.

But I can't imagine he really wants 4 solid years of continuous cleaning up the disasters and scandals that would follow Trump around everywhere.

In the case of Trump, an "outsider" who has broken every norm in this election, asking him if he'll play the end game per accepted norms isn''t the same as asking for a concession speech. It's more a question whether he will simply acknowledge reality, something he's clearly had a problem with throughout this election.

As always, the GOP - in this case, Priebus, its official spokesman - gyrates to excuse outrageous words, behavior and policies.

After this election, the GOP, which I believe can serve as a necessary counter to blatant Democratic vote-buying, is going to have to re-think everything they thought they represented as a party. They're supposed to be fiscally conservative first and last, but they're guilty of vote-buying themselves (ref. Medicare Part D). They have a looooooong way to go before they regain any moral high ground.

The GOP has
- Iraq war + aftermath
- Medicare part D
- Having to BORROW to pay for their monstrous never ending tax cuts that
mostly go to the top 1%

Those 3 alone amount to probably close to 10 Trillion!!

And I'm sure I could add a few more doozies in there.

The so called fiscal conservatives don't exist.

The Dems are much more fiscally prudents than those idiots.

If their base believes that Trump is going to lose then they may just stay home. That would hurt the down ticket races, so Priebus is trying to keep the base hopeful so they'll come out and vote.

That's also why they're so loudly decrying Trump's claims that the election will be rigged. If the base believes it's rigged and that they can't win then they may not bother to vote.

attention is that an election outcome cannot be established before the election itself.
