Joe Walsh: ‘If Trump Loses, I’m Grabbing My Musket’
Source: NBC News
Former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he plans to take up arms if Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump loses on Election Day.
"On November 8th, Im voting for Trump," Walsh tweeted. "On November 9th, if Trump loses, Im grabbing my musket," asking his nearly 80,000 Twitter followers, "You in?"
When CNN's Jake Tapper replied, "what exactly does that mean?" Walsh responded, "It means protesting. Participating in acts of civil disobedience. Doing what it takes to get our country back."
Walsh, who hosts a syndicated radio show on AM-560, later told NBC5 that the tweet was tongue-in-cheek.

(326 posts)The only musket that you will be grabbing is the same one you have been grabbing your whole life, the one between your legs. And as far as your national influence goes, it appears your "musket" has been shooting blanks.

Before I allow myself to get too pissed off at jerk gunners like him, I do like to remind myself that Mr. Tough-guy here and his friends at the Bundy ranch better not push it. Doesn't matter how much they ammo themselves up. They're no match for the 82nd Airborne.

(58,724 posts)In 1980, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh ran for president even though he wouldn't have been able to take office even if elected he was only 33 years old at the time, and, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, the president must be at least 35. Walsh ran as a write-in candidate, however, and garnered attention with his "Free Gas For Everyone" campaign.
He also promised that if he won, he would make his hit song "Life's Been Good" the new national anthem . With lyrics including "I go to parties sometimes until four, it's hard to leave when you can't find the door," it would have made for an interesting anthem to be sung in American classrooms. Although his dream of becoming president didn't come true, this didn't deter him from running for office again in 1992 this time for vice president, recording the song "Vote For Me" as a campaign theme song.

(22,791 posts)Doesn't demonstrate great political prowess to run for president before you reach the age required by the constitution. But I'll give him point for his political instincts: promising free gas without a plan to fund the program.

(58,724 posts)That's definitely not the closest he came to politics since he ran for president in 1980 and for vice president in 1992.

(4,113 posts)Yeah, Walsh. Let's see you take on the gubmint and their state-of-the-art weaponry. You'll be vaporized before you can get around to loading your MUSKET! I don't care if you've since backtracked and claim the remark is "tongue-in-cheek." You know the volatility of the goobers who listen to you. All it takes is pushing just one or a few over the edge and they'll do something really stupid.

(413 posts)If we had any sense a musket is literally all he could grab. We need to ban modern firearms, for every one of him that is public about his wish to kill there are dozens if not hundreds that are quiet about it and that makes them even more dangerous. I really hope Hillary gets rid of all semi and fully automatic firearms in her first term; we can start on the rest after she's re-elected.

(36,281 posts)I might feel a twinge of respect for him if he actually does go out in a blaze of glory and a hail of Secret Service bullets, but I'm guessing his level of commitment falls somewhere between irresponsible talk and faux poutrage. Maybe he'll rise to the occasion and send a couple of tough tweets.

(18,628 posts)A musket is not an accurate weapon. Thats a well known fact. But, why is it inaccurate and what can we learn from its shortcoming we can apply to studies of the Revolutionary War battlefield.
There are innumerable variables concerning the musket. To keep this analysis simple most of the variables will be ignored (things such as temperature, humidity, elevation above sea level, variances in quality of the gunpowder, uniformity of the roundball itself, the size of the ball vs. size of the interior of the barrel, etc.).
The best target rifle in the world is not accurate if it has poor sights. The Brown Bess, Charleville and other muskets of the period have no sights at all. The Brown Bess does have a bayonet lug to secure the bayonet. The bayonet lug is not an ideal sight but it is on the top of the barrel; so we will consider that a front sight.
Another major problem with accuracy is the soldier himself. To fire at leisure on the target range is one thing. To face an enemy very likely within 100 yards, and perhaps much closer, would be a very different situation. The concussion of the soldier firing on the side of our soldier would certainly interfere with his shooting skills. And, those skills may have been minimal in the first place as live fire practice was not a continuous drill.

So go grab your musket, old man, and be done with you.
