New Emails in Clinton Case Came From Anthony Weiner’s Electronic Devices

WASHINGTON — Federal law enforcement officials said Friday that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.

The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case — one federal official said they numbered in the thousands — potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.

In a letter to Congress, the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said that emails had surfaced in an unrelated case, and that they “appear to be pertinent to the investigation.”

If there are thousands, as some sources are saying, then the FBI is checking to see if any are classified (in which case the FBI has to seize control of the material, at a minimum).

In the original wrap-up press statement, Comey did say that they were not able to secure many of the devices used to access the server to read email, and I suppose some of these devices were. Otherwise there would be nothing to discuss.

The New York Times reported the emails the FBI is investigating were found on devices belonging to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and former Congressman Anthony Weiner. Weiner had been under federal investigation over allegations that he traded sexually explicit messages with an underage girl. Weiner and Abedin separated in August.

In a Friday letter to members of Congress, FBI Director James Comey said the agency, “in connection to an unrelated case” had learned of email that “appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” Comey said the FBI “cannot yet assess” whether the material “may be significant” and that he “cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work.”



Comey needs to be fired.

Basically it says that the FBI saw some emails on Weiner's
electronic devices and Comey decided that it was somehow
pertinent to the email investigation of Clinton ..

.. maybe because she recently hired Huma Abedin for her
campaign.

But how this has to do with classified info is beyond me,
because that was an issue in her emails as Secretary of
State and Huma Abedin wasn't even in the picture then.

41. The devices were used by both Huma and Weiner (not surprising, they're married).

There may be not one email that is relevant - as stated in the Comey's letter. But the significance is that there are emails that originated from that server or the relevant addresses on at least one of the devices, and so Comey's former statement to Congress may have been incorrect. Lying to Congress, or not correcting an earlier statement that you now know is a lie, is cause for dismissal.

If there is any classified info on that device (even if it is copy of a prior known classified email), then the FBI is supposed to secure the device from any non-classified access.

And Huma Abedin was working for Hillary Clinton from 2006 and when Ms. Abedin married Mr. Weiner in 2010. So, it would seem there would be many, many emails from Huma Abedin to Anthony Weiner at the time and it may also be she mentioned Mrs. Clinton on those emails. Case Closed.
