WASHINGTON (AP) The Latest on Congress (all times local):

___

10:52 a.m.

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan is strongly hinting that hell challenge Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. Ryan said Thursday that he would make a decision soon and he believes he would have a chance to unseat the California lawmaker who has led her party for more than a decade.

Some discontented Democrats have been clamoring for new leadership after their shellacking last week. The party lost the White House and only made small gains in the House and the Senate, leaving Democrats in the minority.

Ryan says theres a lot of anxiety in the caucus and a lot of people want some change. He added: I would think it has to be at the top.

Democrats were supposed to vote on Thursday but postponed the vote to Nov. 30.

UPDATE:

Tim Ryan Formally Challenges Nancy Pelosi For House Minority Leader

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) announced Thursday that he would challenge Nancy Pelosi to lead the House Democrats, despite Pelosi’s strong support among most of her caucus.

"What we’re doing right now is not working,” Ryan wrote in a letter, obtained by ABC News, announcing his bid to challenge Pelosi as minority leader to his colleagues. “Under our current leadership, Democrats have been reduced to our smallest congressional minority since 1929. This should indicate to all of us that keeping our leadership team completely unchanged will simply lead to more disappointment in future elections.”

Ryan is the first challenger Pelosi has faced for the position since 2010, when Democrats lost their majority in the House.

"Without even asking anybody for a vote, I have over two-thirds of the caucus supporting me," Pelosi said in response to a question about potential challengers earlier Thursday.

From the heart of the rustbelt. Represents Mahoning county area. Traditionally Dem area. Way back when I said whomever wins Mahoning(Blue), Trumbull(Blue) and Columbiana(Purple) counties could win it all.... Well Trump won 2 out of the 3 and the thirdhe just missed.

Ohio to the Dems. I haven't seen much from him. Why should he be elected as minority leader? Nancy has always done her part in keeping California a blue state.

16. His district pretty much voted for Clinton. He's been elected and re-elected by wide margins.

I grew up in Ohio. I know it. There is no way in hell Nancy Pelosi could flip enough of them blue right now.

I've lived in the S.F. Bay Area my adult life. I've voted for Nancy. I GUARANTEE YOU California would continue to vote blue without her.

Democrats have got to let go of the old guard. Might as well start now.

Went for Clinton by only 4K votes. In 2012 it went for Obama by over 30K. Neighboring Trumbull and Columbiana went for Trump, whereas in 2012 Trumbull went for Obama. Columbiana went R both times. So in 2012 two out of three went Obama, 2016 2 out of three went Trump. BTW Ryans district includes part of Trumbull County.

Way back I sensed this area was going to go for Trump. Which made me a "concern troll" in the echo chamber known as DU.

Ryan hasn't done anything special IMHO to deserve speakership.

They voted against Clinton, not Ryan. Embracing a change of this magnitude -- electing Ryan speaker -- is a shout out to the rust belt that "we hear you."

So if not Ryan, who else? No one has come forward. We are doomed to failure if we keep repeating the past.

I wasnt implying that the results were a vote against ryan.

Just saying i think he knows where the wind is blowing in his district. Still i dont see anything special about him. But perhaps change is good.

but thinks like us. No doubt Nancy knows the way the around the Congress. She is our strongest ally and a skilled politician. Changing her is a huge leap of faith and scary. But we have to let go.

He looks, sounds and feels authentic. He's one of them. But he's also one of us.

Time to think out of the box.
