Computer scientists urge Clinton campaign to challenge election results
Source: CNN
Hillary Clinton's campaign is being urged by a number of top computer scientists to call for a recount of vote totals in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, according to a source with knowledge of the request.
The computer scientists believe they have found evidence that vote totals in the three states could have been manipulated or hacked and presented their findings to top Clinton aides on a call last Thursday.

The group informed John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chairman, and Marc Elias, the campaign's general counsel, that Clinton received 7% fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic voting machines, which the group said could have been hacked.
Their group told Podesta and Elias that while they had not found any evidence of hacking, the pattern needs to be looked at by an independent review.

This is a good description:
https://jhalderm.com/home/halderman-cv.pdf
A computer scientist is not just a run-of-the-mill experienced programmer. He/she has an in depth knowledge of not only languages, databases, networking, internet, and applications, but has a thorough knowledge of the hardware that it all runs on - in many cases designed parts of it.
I don't know if CNN is just throwing around the term "scientist," but in Dr. Helderman's case, it applies. They should listen to what he says.

(491 posts)> Based on this statistical analysis, Clinton may have been denied as many as 30,000 votes; she lost Wisconsin by 27,000. While its important to note the group has not found proof of hacking or manipulation
Good luck with that.

(4,187 posts)The whole point of an audit is to investigate whether there was any hacking. If there were solid proof, there would be no need for an audit.
But go ahead and continue attacking Hillary. You're wrong if you think your efforts are fooling anyone.

(54,770 posts)to givev white winger Trump an edge, but there is not going to be a replay of the election. Unless someone finds evidence of widespread fraudulent miscounting/recording of vote, all the grousing isn't going to change the outcome in 2016. If votes were purposely miscounting or misrecorded, we have something. Just about anything else isn't going to change the results.

(40,416 posts)And the Dem won the NC governor's race.
What happened is exactly what one would expect in a close contested election. Screeching "rigged" is what Drumpf was doing before the election when he was behind in all the polls. I guess that's what losers do these days. We lost, so it must be rigged? I don't agree.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)because it was a razor thin win:
R D. Trump - 47.6% - 2,279,805
D H. Clinton - 47.3% - 2,268,193

And the fact that the Dem won the NC governor's race is the anomaly.
longship
(40,416 posts)But that 11,000+ vote margin doesn't seem small enough for an automatic recount.
But mark my words, Hillary will not be asking for a recount here.
That puts any hope for turning around the election out of reach.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)As to who requests and pays for it, I don't know either, but I imagine there are attorneys who can advise.* And the point is not necessarily to reverse the election, though clearly that would be nice, it's to raise awareness of the fact that some of our voting systems are, to borrow a word, deplorable.

(10,500 posts)If there was hacking then it would mean that the Russians understood to hack down ballot race too, to make it look good. So the margin for the Democratic governor-elect would widen.
I personally don't think the election was hacked on Election Day. It was hacked by James Comey throughout 2016.

Fuck that! A simple audit sampling could determine errors. And if there are material errors in the numbers, they should do a full recount before certification.

People are REALLY pissed off about election fraud.
Since that kind of money is roaring in, why don't the individual house and senate candidates do the same thing. They better hurry up though, I think the deadline is right on top of us.
Maybe it is time to stop saying someone has to have enough solid evidence (unless you are Trump Troll) for a recount AND JUST DO IT.
Oh but it costs too much .... lets see if everybody who voted for Hillary donated then they might have to cough up a a Quarter (25 cents).
Even if we do find something, what could come of it... Ohhh, maybe the Presidency and a Senate majority along with a mandate to wipe out machine voting. This may be the last time we have a shot at getting rid of the machines.
