Ex-CIA director: Trump's comments will lead to 'wave' of resignations

Source: The Hill

Former CIA acting director Michael Morell said President-elect Donald Trump’s rhetoric will undermine the agency by causing a “wave of resignations” and affecting its ability to work with foreign intelligence services.

“First, expect a wave of resignations. Attrition at the C.I.A., which has been remarkably low since Sept. 11, 2001, will skyrocket,” Morell wrote in a New York Times op-ed published Friday.

“The primary motivator for some of our smartest minds to go to work at the C.I.A. is to make a difference to national security, to play a role in keeping the country safe. All of the sacrifices — from the long hours, polygraph tests, unfair media criticism, not to mention the real dangers to life and limb — are worth it, if you are making a difference.”

Morell’s latest criticism of the president-elect comes as the intelligence community issued a declassified report that found Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign to help Trump win the presidency.

Morell said Trump’s rejection of the CIA’s assessment about Russia’s interference is “an unprecedented political challenge for our national security establishment” and “a danger to the nation.”

I was talking to some friends today who know a lot about international politics, and they were comparing the current events in the USA with the rise of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, and the similarities.

Hugo Chavez had Fidel Castro who understood the narcissistic nature of Chavez and played on it to advance his agenda, and see where Venezuela is now, people are making lines to buy food, sometimes they are in these lines for over three hours, and when they get to the door of the supermarket they find that all has been sold and there is nothing they can buy. People are dying from simple illnesses because there are no medicines, children are going hungry, kidnappings, murders, Venezuela is one of the most violent countries in the World today.

Donald Trump has Putin and Putin understands that Trump is a narcissist, he is already playing his card and Trump is rejoicing in the adulation. I know that most people who supported this crazy guy don't understand what they have done. I always make the analogy of the doctor who just by looking at you can make an initial diagnosis based on how you look and the symptoms you have. It is the same for people who have lived through dictatorships, they now know when a politician is nothing but a demagogue, and these people know that Trump is one.

One of the biggest dangers, which all dictators do from the moment they know they are taking power is to ally themselves with the military, he/she will pumper them and allow them to rejoice on the riches of the country to win their loyalty, the military will be promoted to new heights to assure they will defend the regime, and because a lot of military people are human and can fault (I won't mention Petreus name), they will be loyal to the regime and forget they once had ideals of true patriotism. If you look at Trump's cabinet picks, see how many generals he already appointed?

I am very upset to read and hear people already accepting that the man-child is going to do this and that, why isn't anyone talking about how they are going to defeat all the evil that he and republicans are already cooking up? Why isn't the CIA, and I won't say the FBI because what can we expect from them?, to prosecute all involved in the hacking, and make this election results void and null??? Yes, there will be riots, but with a patriotic military that can be controlled, but the damage that a Trump presidency will do, and if the military becomes an accomplice, is so much bigger than the riots for overturning the election.

Putin already has a plan, and he knows that with this narcissistic idiot that he can reach his goals, the future is very ugly if Trump or any of the cronies he is putting in charge take office, and anyone who thinks that it can't happen here has not read enough history.

The downfall of the USA is a given if Trump and those evil bastards are allowed to take control, you have already seen all the crap they are trying to pass even before they take the reigns, imagine when they are up there on their thrones. Lets not forget that Rome was great at one time, all civilizations fall from their own doings, and if things are not corrected before January 20th, then brace yourselves for the worst. I hope I am 100% wrong, I really hope I am.

I retired from the Army in 1995 after 28 years of service.

I had a few tours of duty at the Pentagon where I worked with Dept of Defense civilians whose positions ranged from administrative assistants to Assistant and Deputy Secretaries of Defense. I watched these folks take a LOT of undeserved shit from politicians whose favorite sport is beating up on "guvmint bureaucrats."

Occasionally I encountered someone who was a drone but the vast majority are dedicated, serious professionals who believe they are doing something useful . . . they hang in there in spite of the shitstorms piled on them.

My last two assignments were as the military commander of units that actually were CIA operations under military cover. Every single person I encountered there was serious, dedicated, professional . . . 100% opposite of the freak show that surrounds The Trumpster.

Stay and do what you can to serve and protect your country despite/from Yambo OR get the hell out of there before you get stifled and blamed for the disasters he creates?

ETA: Could be especially tough call for covert ops who may not be completely confident that they won't be outed by a vengeful Yambo or his like-minded comrades. Remember Valerie Plame?

watching this and seeing their opportunities for some kind of attack are opening up, but that would mean he actually THINKS about the job he's about to take and the responsibilities with it. We all know the only things he thinks about are what opportunities will open up that will benefit HIM & his billions! I've never been one to worry about attacks, invasions, etc, because I trust our security people, but if a lot of them, leave, it might be time to start to worry.
