Archaeologists unearth link to Anne Frank at camp Sobibor

Source: New York Daily News

Recent excavations at camp Sobibor, a former Nazi extermination site, have uncovered a pendant similar to one belonging to Anne Frank, according to Israels Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

It is believed to have been unearthed where victims undressed and had their heads shaved, before being sent into the gas chambers, the Jewish Press reported.

One side of the unique pendant is engraved with the date 3.7.1929 and the words Mazal Tov in Hebrew. The other side features the Hebrew letter signifying Gods name and three Stars of David, according to the Jewish Press.

The pendant, which closely resembles one worn by Holocaust victim and diarist Frank, is believed to have belonged to Karoline Cohn, whose birthday matches the date engraved on the pendant.

Really not much of a link to Anne Frank other then the coincidence that the pendant found was similar to one she may have worn. I suspect that it was a pretty popular pendant design for Jewish girls of that era.

Sobibor is less well known, as there were almost NO survivors. Belzec is the same. In fact, the two were very close to one another and were pre-planned, as the area in Eastern Poland is very remote, and they are both close to rail lines. Incredible, isn't it, that people actually spent time PLANNING the murder and devastation of an entire group of people.

I only know this, as my great grandmother died in Belzec, and it came to light only after records became available from Bad Arolson that clearly documented just about every ugly detail anybody could ever wonder about. There were approximately 900,000 Jews killed at Belzec between May and December 1942. . . . I'm not sure about the numbers at Sobibor, but they must have been massive as well.
