Maryland school district employee fired over tweet
Source: New York Daily News
A social media manager for a Maryland school district was fired over a light-hearted tweet she sent to a student about his spelling.
When the student asked @FCPSMaryland over Twitter on Jan. 5 for school to be closed tammarow, Katie Nash, 33, replied, but then how would you learn how to spell tomorrow?
The student took Nashs reply in stride, writing on Twitter that he didnt take it personally, but Frederick County Public Schools terminated her contract anyway.
Nashs boss, Michael Doerrer, handed her a letter announcing her firing in a Jan. 13 meeting that lasted just four minutes, Nash told the Daily News.

(28,394 posts)Only that she was told afterwards that she should not tweet. If there is no policy against it, she might have grounds for appeal. (If there is a union, that is.)
Plus, she was the "web experience coordinator"- Wasn't she just doing her job?

(17,984 posts)I've been teaching English since 2001, and my wife taught from 2005 till 2009. This is nothing compared to what really happens in public schools. The majority of administrators have absolutely no teaching background. Schools are run as businesses where the end product (standardized test scores) are the only thing that matters.
If you knew half of what actually goes on in K-12, you would home school your children.
