Pence Clarifies What Trump Meant When He Said 'Insurance For Everybody'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By LAUREN FOX Published JANUARY 18, 2017, 4:55 PM EDT

Vice President-elect Mike Pence took the liberty on CNN Wednesday of clarifying what Donald Trump really meant when he said in a Washington Post interview that he wanted to see "insurance for everybody."

"I think it means making insurance affordable for everyone, but also allowing for the kinds of reforms in Medicaid on a state-by-state basis that will ensure -- that will make sure that we have health care coverage for the most vulnerable in our society," Pence said, according to a report from CNN.

Pence's clarification came after Trump's comments startled some Capitol Hill Republicans who feared Trump was making promises that the party could not deliver on in a replacement plan.

During the CNN interview, Pence also clarified that the Trump administration was still working on a replacement to the Affordable Care Act, but that it would be done soon. "We're getting very close. We expect to have that plan come forward in the early days of the administration," Pence told CNN.

They KNOW they have no replace, and they don't CARE that they have no replace. They just figure if they keep lying, the dopes who continue to vote for them will be placated.

It is telling that they passed a bill so that the Congressional Budget Office cannot tell us what the repeal will cost the US economy. It will be disastrous. But being mean and petty and spoiling what the black guy did is far more important than the overall economic health of the nation.

It's sad when Rethugs ignore places like the Cleveland Clinic jumping up and down and shouting about what a disaster repeal would be.

A guy named Trump. He's too busy preening.

And if there's one thing Republicans have fought tooth and nail AGAINST since Prometheus discovered fire, it's "making insurance affordable for everyone." So, Pence has another "think" coming.

By the way, if ANYONE believes that the Republicans will have a replacement plan in "the early days of the administration," either the "early days" of this administration mean December, 2020, or this administration is expecting to end within a year of the inauguration, and Pence already is anticipating the onset of his own administration

They assumed that Obamacare would be deeply unpopular enough that Democrats would want to be seen helping replace it. They didn't expect (a) the overall popularity of Obamacare and (b) the solidarity Democrats are showing (so far) in refusing to help.

this bunch is that they - the elected Rs and their surrogates - say a lot of different sometimes wildly contradictory things so everyone can hear what they want to hear.... and meanwhile, they will just ram through stuff at warp speed and in secrecy, so no one has time to read it until its too late to mount any kind of objection or public outcry. Thats how its played out here in WI under single party radical RW government.
