IBM leader defends role on Trump advisory council

Source: The Hill

The head of IBM is defending her role on President Trump’s business advisory council.

In an internal letter to employees, CEO Ginni Rometty stressed that IBM “does not espouse a partisan or political point of view.”

“Some have suggested that we should not engage with the U.S. administration. I disagree,” Rometty wrote in the letter, obtained by The Hill and first reported on by TechCrunch, which was distributed shortly after a meeting with Trump earlier this month.

“Our experience has taught us that engagement — reaching out, listening and having authentic dialogue — is the best path to good outcomes.”

path to good outcomes is far from certain when dealing with ideologues

The CEO indicates they do not take a political point of view, but by virtue of just engaging with Trump and his administration, issues that shouldn't be political, such as civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, environmental rights, etc. make it political, and if any company, NOT just IBM, is willing to give in or even compromise on those issues, just to curry favor with the trump administration, then they are agreeing with the positions of racism, sexism, and xenophobia, and have no moral standing
