F.B.I. Interviewed Flynn in Trumps First Days in Office, Officials Say
Source: NY Times
WASHINGTON F.B.I. agents interviewed Michael T. Flynn when he was national security adviser in the first days of the Trump administration about his conversations with the Russian ambassador, current and former officials said on Tuesday.
The interview raises the stakes of what so far has been a political scandal that cost Mr. Flynn his job. If he was not entirely honest with the F.B.I., it could expose Mr. Flynn to a felony charge. President Trump asked for Mr. Flynns resignation on Monday night.
While it is not clear what he said in his F.B.I. interview, Mr. Flynn maintained publicly for more than a week that his conversations with the ambassador were innocuous and did not involve Russian sanctions, something now known to be false.
Shortly after the F.B.I. interview, on Jan. 26, the acting attorney general, Sally Q. Yates, told the White House that Mr. Flynn was vulnerable to Russian blackmail because of inconsistencies between what he had said publicly and what intelligence officials knew to be true.

(26,060 posts)That's how the FBI knew he was lying when he said he didn't mention sanctions. What I don't understand is how he didn't know we tap the russian ambassador's phone.

(15,286 posts)Flynn and Trump were thick as thieves both before and after the election. It strikes me as highly unlikely Flynn would have made these calls on his own. He had either the implicit (from his closeness with Trump) or explicit approval from Trump to proceed.
What are the other theories that explain why Trump would be ok with Flynn for 19 days, then fire Flynn when the story became public?

(14,624 posts)By the time they come knocking on your door, they already know just about everything. When they interview you, they may not have enough to prosecute, but they basically know what happened. They're giving you a chance to hang yourself by lying.
LOCK FLYNN UP!
