Source: CNN

(CNN)David Cassidy, the 66-year-old singer and actor, says he is battling dementia.

The former teenage heartthrob told People magazine that dementia runs in his family, affecting both his grandfather and his mother.

Cassidy said he would step back from touring.

But it's practically illegal to diagnose Lyme, so docs stick their heads in the sand and diagnose the symptoms while ignoring the cause. Lyme could be treated and he could tour again, but instead he will die of "dementia."

Lyme attacks everything: brain, nervous system, liver, etc. It causes symptoms resembling Parkinson's, Alzheimers, arthritis, etc. Babesia causes sweats, coughing, weakness, etc. Lyme and Babesia are usually contracted from the same tick bite.

...by using heavily biased and inaccurate tests. The IDSA (which was investigated for criminal activity) sets the guidelines for diagnosis and treatment so that nobody gets adequate treatment.

There are better tests and better doctors, a celebrity like Kristofferson or Cassidy will have access, while millions do not.

Moreover, he has lived in Los Angeles his whole life, where the incidence of Lyme Disease is extremely low.
http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/Diseases/Lyme.htm
"Lyme Disease (LD) is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, and is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected western blacklegged tick (Ixodes pacificus) in much of the western United States and by the blacklegged or deer tick Ixodes scapularis in other parts of the country. The reservoir for B. burgdorferi is small rodents, with deer as a secondary reservoir. Ticks that feed on infected rodents or deer may then transmit the disease to humans. The western blacklegged tick has been recovered from 56 of 58 California (CA) counties, including Los Angeles County (CA Department of Health Services, unpublished data). Several surveys have estimated that only 1.0-1.5% of adult I. pacificus ticks are infected with B. burgdorferi, compared to an infection rate of 20-40% in I. scapularis ticks in the Northeast US. Thus LD is not acquired frequently in Los Angeles County (LAC).

LD has been a reportable disease in CA since 1989, and each year from 20 to 30 suspected cases of LD are reported to LAC Public Health by clinicians and laboratories. However, few of these reports meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) case definition for confirmed LD. The number of confirmed LD cases in LAC has varied from zero to eight cases a year. But most reported LD cases are acquired outside LAC; in most years only one case is acquired within LAC. For example, in 2003, six confirmed cases were reported among county residents, but five of them reported tick exposure outside of LAC."
.................
My guess is that he has been examined by competent medical professionals and that the diagnosis he has revealed is evidence-based. There is as much conspiracy theory fake science surrounding Lyme Disease as there is about autism /anti-vaccinationism.

Several problems here. First, he has lived in Florida for many years. Second, he spends a lot of time in Saratoga NY for horse activities; Saratoga is near the Lyme epicenter. Third, CA has plenty of Lyme if you look at the real numbers (as opposed to the corrupt CDC numbers).

Fourth, dementia is a symptom, not a disease. There is a lot of evidence (and yes, controversy) that a lot of brain diseases are linked to Lyme.

I have no idea what the source of his dementia is, but he seems to think it is genetic in his case.

Lyme is the town in CT where the disease was first identified.

There may well be genetic factors in susceptibility. Or it may be that while his genetics predisposes him to Alzheimer's in his 80s, Lyme got him first. It's not either-or. The symptoms you can see in the videos and hear in his discussions (arthritis, loss of muscle control, intermittent confusion) are consistent with Lyme. The sudden sweats and coughing are consistent with Babesia, a very common co-infection.

After a lifetime of giving happiness to people, he deserves at least a VERY serious workup by a physician who is not in league with the Lyme denyers.
