U.S. President Donald Trump denounced anti-Semitism in the United States in an interview on Tuesday after he was asked about a spate of threats to Jewish community centers around the country.

I will tell you that anti-Semitism is horrible and its going to stop and it has to stop, Trump said in an interview with NBC.

President Trump went on a tour through the National Museum of African American History today, during which, he took questions about the uptick of antisemitic, racially-charged incidents taking place around the country.

In recent days, synagogues and other Jewish sites around the country have been dealing with a combination of vandalism and threats of violence. Ivanka Trump and the White House have both offered statements on the matter, and today, MSNBC’s Craig Melvin caught up with Trump inside of the museum to get his direct response to these incidents.

“I will tell you that antisemitism is horrible and it’s going to stop and it has to stop,” Trump said. When asked if he was denouncing hatred against Jews once and for all, Trump said. “of course. I do it wherever I get a chance.”

Trump also offered comments about issues and tensions pertaining to America’s racial divide. While he offered compliments to the museum as a unifying monument, Trump eventually pivoted to immigration and talked about how essential it was to “have a safe country” and “let people come in that are going to love the country.”

Arabs may be Semites, but the term anti-Semitism refers specifically to hatred of Jews. It was coined by a German anti-Semite named Wilhelm Marr and has always referred to Jews.
