SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Sales double twice a year at the Toasters sandwich shop in downtown Salt Lake City when tens of thousands of plaid-shirted outdoor retailer representatives arrive in town for a massive industry trade show.
And Laser Exhibitor Service hires 100 people before each show to set up and take down about 60 exhibitor booths for the Outdoor Retailer shows.
But Toasters owners Enes and Mubera Huskic and Laser owner Adam Swillinger won't get that business anymore after the show announced last week it will leave Salt Lake City after two decades because of the stance by the state's Republican leadership on public lands. This summer's show could be the last one held in Utah.
The Huskics say they may have to cut back employee hours at their location across the street from the convention center, one of four they operate.

(34,661 posts)Bishop,Chaffetz,Hatch, and Lee were warned this would happen. Forty Million in direct Show loss, now, the bigly one, minimum of one billion to as much as 3 billion in loss recreational sales for the State. This number is most likely on the low end.
As many have warned, you broke it,now pay for it.
Hunch says, they just kissed several thousands of jobs done the crapper.

(34,661 posts)Business, this is where you make or break your Season is at these Shows. If they had to rely on just Utah Residents, well that ain't going to make it. Average Utah Residents do not have the disposable Income to or the free time to support their Recreational Industry.

(11,240 posts)They make fun of 'elites', gerrymander our electoral power away and then get a sad when we vote with the only thing we have left, our sweet disposable incomes. Our votes may not count as much but we are still more affluent. We would rather spend it with people who don't spit in our faces, thanks!

(32,525 posts)Selling off Federal land is great for all those militia type members, but that is a very small percentage of their membership. The large number of sportsmen and women members are the ones that are not happy.
Or NRA is suppose to be about gun safety and shoots it's self in the foot.

(58,785 posts)This is excellent news. A stand by a very large show, at which hundreds of retailers display, including large retail chains like Cabela's, against a Republican giveaway of public lands to those who would exploit and ravage them.
Btw, our taxes are of course the main source of federal funds. ONE GUESS what the second is.
Giving away our extremely valuable land assets has nothing to do with "freedom," a whole LOT to do with profiteering and cronyism, but the main goal of the right-wing extremists driving this is to continue dismantling the government of, by and for the people that we established 225 years ago.
